I just stumbled onto a website called www.ninite.com. I have not tried it yet but it looks pretty cool. IF it works as it claims, this is a really neat site. I can not presently vouch for its integrity since I just found out about it, but, from the research I have done so far it seems to be legit.

The front page of this site has popular apps of all kinds. You pick the ones you want, download the installer, and the site downloads and installs all the software you selected by itself.

Once downloaded the installer will:
start working as soon as you run it
not bother you with any choices or options
install apps in their default location
say no to toolbars or extra junk
install 64-bit apps on 64-bit machines
install apps in your PC's language or one you choose
do all its work in the background
install the latest stable version of an app
skip up-to-date apps
skip any reboot requests from installers
use your proxy settings from Internet Explorer
download apps from each publisher's official site
verify digital signatures or hashes before running anything
work best if you turn off any web filters or firewalls
save you a lot of time!

Note: As with any software downloader, I recommend due diligence in its use. My research thus far has indicated this site is legit and safe. I still recommend doing your own investigation prior to use.

Took a look at it, seems useful! Thank you for posting.

Is there a method to integrate all these into Windows installer already? I once had such a windows DVD where I just put in the DVD and select to boot from it, then select the hard drive to install and it did everything else. That was my go-to solution whenever my laptop acted up, without having to bother family about it.

All the settings, even installed programs. That was very convenient.

Nice. But how certain can we be that there is no malware involved.

Please, somebody, convince me.

I used to use it years ago to keep installed software up to date, but stopped because there were more comprehensive options around. Also, at the time, different vendors were changing their download security and Ninite just wasn't keeping up, so it would constantly fail.

Perhaps I will revisit and check things out.

Thanks

That is a concern with any download.

This site says it only downloads from the publishers official site and checks all the digital signatures and hashes before running anything. If that is true, its about as safe as it can get.

Probably a lot safer than manually downloading it. Because, frankly, almost no home-player is checking hashes for a downloaded file.

I know I don't and the only time I did was in my old workplace setting up VPN profiles and transfering them via SSH&SFTP onto clients/routers. Even there it was looked at as being "overly cautious".

Scripted installs and slipstreaming .

With this kind of security there is no such thing as overly cautious!
