A widespread state of emergency has been declared across Jamaica to fight violent crime, the island nation’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness said in a public address Wednesday.
“All Jamaicans should be able to enjoy the Christmas season free from the threat of violence. We have some really serious criminal threats facing us and we have to use all the powers at our disposal,” Holness said.
The State of Emergency (SOE) will be enforced in nine of Jamaica’s 14 parishes, including Clarendon, Saint Catherine, Westmoreland, Hanover and parts of Kingston, Saint Andrew, Saint Ann and Saint James, which encompasses the popular tourist destination Montego Bay.
According to him, one goal of the gatherings is to try to break the connections between international members of the criminal underworld and those on the island, which frequently leads to killings and other forms of carnage.
Getting more intense cooperation in treating with the foreign actors in our local crimes,” according to Holness.
A serious hindrance to Jamaica's development has been slow rates of economic growth. In the past 30 years, Jamaica has had an average annual GDP growth rate of less than one percent. The slow growth rate is a major cause of persistent poverty in Jamaica.

I'm thinking because of this news that tourism dollars will again decline.

Tough telling, but they're back at or above pre 2019 numbers already.
Jamaica, as I understand it is kind of like Mexico.
..you stay in the resorts for the most part.
I'm headed to Casa de Campo in the Dominican Repub soon, It's close to Haiti, so hopefully it is safe.

I hope so for your sake. But who is guarding the resorts in Jamaica?
