I keep trying to figure out when all these big firms chose political beliefs over the bottom line.

Sure wasn't that way a couple of decades ago.

Someone, somehow, made it worth their while to do so.

Bottom line and political beliefs have always been joined at the hip. AS the GOP selfdistructs, don't expect the industry leaders to bail them out.

Marketing and establishing a credible brand is all important and no corporation wants to be associated with a bunch of losers.

“The first rule of social media is that everything changes all the time. What won’t change is the community’s desire to network.” — Kami Huyse

What Elon does with Twitter will absolutely indicate how his conglomerates will fare in the future. I expect twitter to just become another spokesman for the Qanon cult. No free speech there.....

Twitters moderation system is in tatters down to the fact that Musk has laid-off about 7,500 employees or thereabouts.

ATS has zero employees. It's an all-volunteer staff.

Wonder how ATS has survived?

If I might hazard a guess......Advertising, but if my only option was "pay to play" I'd do it! But I wouldn't do it for twitter, Rumble, facebook or Instagram.

That was in response to Andy's complaint that Twitter fired too many employees to effectively moderate. No one here knows how many employees Twitter needs; ATS needs none.

There are only a few reasons IMO to ever remove opinions posted on social media.
  • Lack of civility
  • Illegal actions
  • Lewd conduct
  • Danger to society (promoting self-harm or the like)
  • Harmful to the platform itself
Anything else is potential bias, and there was a LOT of that bias going on at Twitter. That is also illegal, in that social media platforms enjoy some legal protection based on their platform being open, yet Twitter was editorializing by removing opinions based on personal agendas of the Staff and thus violating the very reason those legal protections were in place.

I refuse to post on Twitter... never made an account. The reason is I refuse to contribute to any organization that censors free speech. That includes ATS. If ATS begins to censor based on personal opinion instead of one of the reasons above, I will no longer be here either. That is my line in the sand.

Same with Facebook. I have an account there, but I rarely (and I mean RARELY... as in maybe once every two years) even log on. Same with Tic-Toc, Instagram, Snapchat, or whatever new platform is "trending" today. I will always support free speech and refuse to support censorship. Period.

I'm still waiting to see what happens before I join up at Twitter. I think Musk is doing good so far, but it's going to take a while to convince me.

Have a rare star!

I'd pay 8 bucks for ATS.

If they'd fix it!

Untold stories.

Globalization changed the attitudes of these companies. They can afford to ignore a large portion of the population in certain countries.

I remember reading in the late 90s/early 2000s that only 1% of the Chinese populations needs to achieve Middle Class economic status to completely replace the purchasing power of the US consumer population.

Add in tax dodging, like Apple does, and corporate bailouts; you have the perfect environment for what we are seeing today.

If "Twitter" was functioning well Apple and the EU would not have concerns as to the content being hosted there or be threating to remove the platform because of lack of moderation.

Nor would Musk be forced to reemploy staff he already sacked.

Far as i can establish thus far Elon has done little but contribute to and compound the problems associated with the site.

Want Musk wants and what he seems to be getting for his $44 Billion appear to be two different things.

Apple and the EU are not arbiters of truth and what 'good' or 'bad' content is won't be decided by either of them.

It's like me arguing that my uncle Jamal doesn't approve of the current change in leadership on Twitter.....

EU is just a laughable example by the way. Who the hell is the EU??!!

Thanks, I'd go as far as $25 for a years subscription. It's well worth that as a resource.

Verry true....

The internet has opened up markets internationally. I sometimes work for a large entertainment corporation and with the advent of streaming, the world is their oyster and the US is basically a small market compared to the rest of the world. Even poor people in very poor countries have mobile phones that anyone can watch our content that isn't subscriber oriented.

ATS is not Twitter or anything reminiscing such.

Nothing like the same kind of userbase for a start.

So apples and oranges really.

And the place still requires moderation, so there is that, paid or otherwise.

Apple and the EU are free to choose whichever media platforms they see fit.

No its not.

The EU is a "supranational political and economic union" comprising 27 member states.

As to what's laughable well the mess Elon has made of Twitter thus far never mind what he paid for the site springs to mind.

Apple wont be willing to host unmoderated or very slightly moderated sites like Twitter given the implications F2d5thCavv2 especially if the place is deemed toxic or racist as it may effect them both legally and financially in the long run.

Where the EU is concerned, well perhaps they should do a lot of thing mate but then again the same could be said for Musk and that way he and Twitter would not be in this mess.

End of the day both Apple and the EU are perfectly free to choose which platforms they allow to be hosted.

By my estimation Musk sold out long ago and has always been part of the problem.

Same as any other billionaire that attempts to pretend to be just one of the boys.

His life is nothing reminiscent of our own nor lightly to be anytime soon nickyw.

The issue for Musk now far as i can establish is not to allow Twitter to go down the toilet and he appears to be trying his hardest to flush it down the pan.

he's like all the other ultra wealthy and ultra rich who have enough to play at world level, you see it with gates, soros and the clintons go back further and many of the statues being toppled in the uk are the rich who have done the same from the statue in Bristol to the state of Guy at Guys hospital..

they all do it and it doesn't always reflect on what else they do.

They are rich enough to play with billions.. twitter looks like Musks own pet revolution like Soros has for his revolutions thats probably more why it has so many spooked.. as he could just mothball it tomorrow.

What do you make of the price tag?

Im thinking $44 Billion was somewhat of a bump to be honest.

To the tune of around him paying double the odds or thereabouts.

Then there's. What could go wrong

Hive Social, a social media platform that has seen meteoric growth since Elon Musk took over Twitter, abruptly shut down its service on Wednesday after a security advisory warned the site was riddled with vulnerabilities that exposed all data stored in user accounts.

A gun lying at the side of his bed ffs.

I hope none of his 8 weans were kicking about the place when he's asleep or that could end badly rich twat or not.

Not quite sure what kind of statement that pic was supposed to provoke to be honest aside from irresponsible.

if he paid it then he thought it worthwhile, Bezos says he'll give all his away, both suggest our version of society is at the end of the line, a trend you can see in the wealth dispersal in Britain to build hospitals, library's, museums, church's and cathedrals many of which cost far more than they where worth..

This is just the American empires version of that..
