he spent a good bit of his career paying for and authorizing the studies that created this bio weapon, you would think knowing that, the severity wouldn't surprise him like this. he helped make it.

Well, he's 80 years old. It's a good move and a logical one.

And no, he and other epidemiologists didn't figure the epidemic would last this long when it first arrived. They assumed that people would follow guidelines (vaccine, masks, etc) so that the number of cases would be limited and the virus wouldn't mutate (the fewer cases, the less chance for mutation) and therefore we wouldn't be sitting at 6.2 million deaths (and rising.)

He will probably run for president , and win that's how crazy the world is right now...
