Nothing wrong with that; I'm typically a double barbacoa crunchy taco kind of person myself. Which comes out to roughly the same price and is oh-so-tasty when covered with Tapatio. The cost of fast food has gone up a good bit, though; I'm a big fan of KFC from time to time. That three-piece with two sides is getting expensive, better for my waistline, I suppose.

So I have a weakness for fried chicken. I rarely have it because either I have to make it or travel to get it.
You know what is weird, fried chicken was considered poor food and used to be one of the cheapest meals you could get, now it is probably one of the most expensive for fast food.

My mom used to make fried chicken for my dad to take to his recruits when he was in the Army. She made fried chicken because it could sit out all day and not go bad. At least that is what they thought then. They said if it was fried it didn’t need heating or cooling. Either people had stronger stomachs, or chicken really didn’t need it back then because I don’t remember anyone getting food poisoning!

"People who...." Can't cook very well or never take the proper time to cook.... Are really lazy.... Are not concerned about what they put in their bodies.... Have kids that dictate where you eat instead of training them about good food....

That’s quite the assumption.

I cook very well, so much so people have begged me to become a chef.
Lazy… that’s funny too, most people that know me tell me to relax.

I think most people are concerned about what they put in their bodies but at the same time, moderation.
I’m not going to be one of those people that never eats a piece of chocolate, or a sweet, or gasp… Chipotle because I’m hungry when I’m out.
That is not indicative of me being lazy, or unhealthy, or a bad cook.
Actually if you watch any foodie shows you’ll see that MANY world famous chefs have their favorite “guilty pleasure.”

When I said "lazy," I didn't mean "get up off your butt" lazy. I meant people who just float through life. I've noticed that people who say, "Oh, I never have time to cook," are usually the same people who let their jobs dictate their life instead of the other way around. To those people, they seem to place more importance on money than personal happiness. That's the kind of lazy I meant. I'd rather be happy than rich. Take control of your life.

I personally believe that chocolate is one of the basic food groups. I eat it every day. Apparently it's not bad for you because my doctor always says, in relation to my diet, "Keep doing what you're doing." So, I eat chocolate a lot, (not a lot of chocolate, I eat it in moderation), because my doctor said to. So, I listen to her! Ha ha.

Guilty pleasures are all right in my book. What I'm talking about when I say what people are putting in their body, is all those preservatives, monosodium gluta-somethings, yellow #7 dies, high fructose corn syrup and all that crap. That stuff will kill you. I don't put any of that stuff in my dishes that I cook here at home. And I never did, either, when I worked as a professional chef. People want flavor, not chemicals.

I actually don't disagree with anything you said. It's just that I was talking about something a little different than what you thought I was talking about.

I hope this explains it better.

My first week in Wisconsin I went to a taco joint. I kid you not, the taco was a shell filled with pot roast, NO seasoning just grease/gravy.

There was a taco restaurant that opened up over in the next town to me. They didn't use any kind of hot sauce, they used ketchup! That's not authentic at all!

Dr. Pepper - who would of thought!? I don't care if it would make me live to be 104, I'm not drinking that nasty stuff. I had it once and it was awful tasting to me.

Dr. Pepper only taste good to people with centenarian genes.
I happen to be one of those people. Dr.Pepper is nectar of the Gods.
It’s like Cherry Coke but better.

For people that don’t have the gene it tastes like cough medicines, sucks to be you

Tip: put a case of your favorite (Diet Coke) soda in your trunk. Only get take out once a week. Make it a treat. Know who is healthy and reasonable. I like mine to be around $11. Everything is unsustainable. We are probably headed for a recession and depression. Biden did this.

In Texas,the too young to buy beer, teens chase the cough syrup with Dr. Pepper. Makes your ears ring, or so they tell me;

or perhaps it was the morning glory seeds, it was a long time ago, in a universe far, far away.

I cook a lot and know how to make very nutritious meals. If I am out all day, I’m not bringing a lunch bag while I shop or run errands. I also live in a rural area so it’s not like I can just hop home 5 mins away. That is why I enjoy getting a little Chipotle or Qdoba while I’m out.

I just think $20 for a meal for one person for fast food is crazy!
Can I go in a mom and pop and pay something similar or just a tad more, sure if I have two hours to burn.
Most times that isn’t happening.

When the wife and I go out shopping in Marquette, which we do about once a week, we often will go to a fast food restaurant. If we go to BK, we get a cheap burger or chicken sandwich, usually it costs less than a buck fifty. I get a water and she gets a coke and occasionally she gets a small fry.

It costs less than seven bucks for both of us to eat there or at Hardies. The only mexican fast food near that area is Taco bell and their food isn't the greatest anymore. It may be that since we reduced highly processed food down to twenty percent of our diet max that our taste buds have changed. We go to a fish fry at a local restaurant about once a month and a half, choosing local Whitefish fishfries. We also go to the Asian Buffet about once every two to three months and pig out. She eats way different than I do there, I choose lots of seafood stuff, she goes for the pasta dishes and rice with generals or honey chicken along with crab ragoons and egg rolls. If I ate what she eats, I would be sick.

We make better food than most of the restaurants around here serve, maybe the real fancy ones have good food, but we are not going to pay fifty bucks a meal to eat there. When you are retired on social security and spend way more than you have coming in, the savings goes down rapidly. We try to avoid spending much of the savings, we will need the money if one of us kicks the bucket and a social security check disappears.

When we boosted our amount of homemade foods that are not highly processed from seventy percent to eighty percent, we noticed we felt way better. Neither of us wants to go backwards healthwise, we like the extra energy to do things. I bet when we go out shopping we put about five miles of walking in overall between the four stores we walk around in. It is good exercise to walk, and safer in a store than walking fifty times around the driveway loop to get in five miles.

That twenty percent limit on junk food includes pizza and spaghetti and occasional dishes containing creamed canned soups.

If you can't go out and enjoy a meal in a restaurant occasionally and socialize and feel rewarded, what is the fun of living. It is a treat if you do it occasionally, it is an addiction if you do it often. I learned that decades ago but was given that information by my father...when I was around thirteen...he was one hundred percent right...but of course, I liked the exciting life. I wish I had followed his lead, I could have retired a rich man at fifty.

There is also another saying that needs to be considered.. Penny wise and a nickel poorer...you can go overboard the other way too.

in the UK a McDonalds is about £5 a meal. That's cheap considering the cost of gas and electricity to cook at home.

I think there's a gene for that. If you've got it, it does taste like soap. If you don't, not a problem.

Every single one of those jobs earned the minimum wage.

You are absolutely right. AND.... they were able to raise their family with a minimum wage job. You can't say that about minimum wage jobs today, can you?

If you lived the same way people did in the fifties, you could. It's just that what once were considered amenities have now become necessities. It's not as if we had to pay for a cell phone or cable subscription.

I have noticed recently that I can't get out of the grocery store without spending 40-60 bucks. At this rate ANY food will be for the rich.

Congressional overspending and excessive printing of money is a huge part of the problem. Everything else is like the scapegoat for the irresponsibilities and corruption of bad leaders who have sold out to Chinese and other foreign interests. Socialism is the rest of the problem.
