Germany has finally seen the light and is ending the war on recreational use of the Urb ... good for them and the German people.

Possession of up to 30g (1oz) for personal use would be allowed. Licensed shops and pharmacies would sell it.

The plan still requires approval by the European Commission and German parliament. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said the plan could become law in 2024.

In the EU only Malta has legalised recreational cannabis.

The German plan would also allow home cultivation of three cannabis plants per adult.

The move was envisaged in the coalition government's manifesto, announced last year. The Social Democrats (SPD) lead the coalition, with the Greens and liberal Free Democrats as partners.

Germany has finally reached enlightenment and seen the Euro's the Green revolution will bring , where Germany goes Europe is sure to follow.

Lol, no it hasn’t, it is still illegal to this day. The thing is that no one gives a **ck and doesn’t charge anyone. You can get it in cafes and what not. I don’t know why they haven’t legalized it there yet.. doesn’t make much sense. I live in NY and have been thoroughly enjoying recreational legalization here!

Will the European commision pass it though?

Seems like a sensible move by Germany-huge amount of police time freed up to concentrate on actual crime, plus likely huge benefits to germanys tax purse.

Meanwhile n the UK we get Braverman who is gnashing at the bit to change the UK drug laws and make ganja a class A drug, same as crack, meth and heroin.

Not quite as sensible to put it mildly.

I don't care that it is legal but I absolutely despise the constant smell of it everywhere now....

UK drug laws are archaic and draconian.....and simply don't work.
Any attempt at rational discussion is immediately stifled and anyone recommending reform demonised as a drug addled fiend.

We have a party in power that alleges to support freedom of choice and less interference from big government.

Not often I say this; well done Germany.

As Peeple pointed out it's decriminalised in the Netherlands but Germany are talking about legalizing it , same thing really I guess just different legal connotations.

Due to my poor eyesight I though it said Recreational Cannibals and that stopped me in my tracks with thoughts of a tribe of drunken blond fat bellied and slanty eyed Bavarians re-enacting that scene from Conan the barbarian with a cave abattoir full of unfortunate victims.

Actually, quite put me off my chocolate sundae.

But joking aside you know the real reason.

Well Cannabis does have some benefits for some people and is good as a medicine but should only ever be taken as such and only in CBD oil format in my somewhat humble opinion.

Back when my brother moved out (Nicknames Terry Too Tall by his mates on account of the fact he was tall) I used to go around like you do to your big brothers to his place to me my big brother the way you do, cat # up the wall's, his pet cat stoned and crazy and he and his mates not giving a damn about the world while they shared a saliva drenched spliff among themselves sitting in his parlour talking about crap all.

I would not want to see an entire nation turn into that mess.

I also watched over the years how one thing turned into another, harder and harder recreational drugs until one day I saw him trading the crap to some kid's that were barely above school age then told our mother and she called the police to try to save her son from the path he had chosen to walk in this world, have not had a close relationship with him for years now and he did much worse back to our mother and indeed was already doing so before this we later found out.

So yeah, CBD oil fine and extra strength as it has plenty of health benefits but smokable weed with all the bad parts left in, nope bad move no matter how they will claim otherwise.

Anyway, if you believe some of the claims it was used to keep slaves in line by Sitchins alien overlords and has a chemical that bonds to a receiver in the human nervous system that serves no other purpose.

And for those politicians it's about making money, keeping the masses having their opium so they don't revolt against planned new laws and right's removals and other bad things.

It is not about civil liberty no matter what the adherents of it will tell you.

Now this is just my opinion, but I blame recreational drugs for most of the social problems we have in today society AND for the fact people could not be arsed to get off their arses and stand up against Bad Tory governments in the UK being too stoned to give a # while it also drove crime through the roof, as I say one things leads to another and we all know how we get Smack and now Crack heads.

My opinion Dealers need to be treated like murderer's.

The only reason Tory police want to recriminalize it to class A in the UK is because what rot's the bottom of society eventually reaches its branches and right to the very top (As if they did not find coc aine (charlie) in the house of commons toilets or those public-school boy bummers were not already taking everything illegal they can, shame on the sane and ordinary folk of the UK for voting for scum like that in BOTH party's look at the mess they have us in and now we have a hedge fund guy in charge of the bloody country that made a fortune off of selling vaccines for the covid talk about conflict of interests and revolving bloody doors for crooks in power eh!.

Really, I don't give two hoots what Germany does to itself, but I would still advise them DONT but since most politicians have been snorting something harder for decades they won't listen.

Although much of the same could be said about alcohol yet that is a legal drug , to my experience ,having lost friends to it ,a far more dangerous drug.

At a time where the public finances are in a state an infusion of Urb tax may be just what it needs , and with the last few years we've had a little bit of relaxation.

Lost quite a few family, friends and associates through alcohol.
Lost a few to heroin....more than I care to mention if I'm being honest.

Seen a hell of a lot of bad things happen due to alcohol and a few people get dragged into the life of crime due to their dependency on heroin.
Its not nice.
Its a downward spiral for some....a discussion for another time and place.

But the vast majority of people who smoke weed do so quite responsibly, certainly far more responsibly than some alcohol users.
Sure, heavy use over a prolonged period of time sort of addles the mind, pretty much the same as prolonged use of anything.

I could go on and on about drug use and the pro's and con's of current legislation....but it'd only bore the tits off everyone.
And there are site T&C's to consider.

I like a drink - I'm a social drinker, only rarely drink in the house or anywhere other than pubs, clubs and social events.
I don't smoke weed - it wankers me, one or two tokes and I have a whitey.

That's been debunked as a made up story.

In the UK, it's illegal to supply, possess or grow cannabis, but the police will rarely charge for possession for personal use, mainly because its use is so widespread. Personally, I would be wary of legalisation as I have seen the impact of drug abuse, and the current state of affairs seems a tolerable compromise. Legalisation elsewhere has not been a roaring success.

Poor Germany, having to have its laws passed by the undemocratic EU.

Yep.

It's the safer choice compared to alcohol for most, and especially many that have quit alcohol.

Ever try an edible? Just mentioned that cuz you said you turn green from smoking it? lol.

Good for Germany IMO.

Never been a big user of weed but as the years rolled on my tolerance levels got lower.....its not a big issue for me personally.
But I understand that some people like it.
I know people who have smoked it for years and are still fully functioning members of society who work hard, love their families and live normal, respectful, responsible lives...they just like a joint.
I don't understand why the morality police dictate they can't.

I like a pint.
I've been a BIG drinker for a lot of years.
But a social drinker, almost exclusively in pubs, clubs and social events. Only recently have I started to have the occasional margherita or couple of cold one's in the house.....and I mean very occasional and literally just one or two.

I don't get angry and violent in drink.
I'm not nasty.
I also worked hard and played hard....but drink has never controlled me.
I'm a drinker not a drunkard - a MASSIVE difference.

But not everyone is the same.
I've seen drink literally kill people.
I've seen violence that would horrify many, if not most, on here where drink was the primary catalyst.
I've seen people's whole lives destroyed by drink.

I've spent most of my life since I was 16 years old in and around pubs etc - I'm now 57.
I've socialised in them, ran my own pubs, worked doors on them for years and behind the bar for a while.

I could literally write a book about my life in and around pubs.
I don't mean to sound condescending or anything but I know full well about the perils of drink for some.

But we all know how Prohibition of alcohol works out.

And who has the right to tell me that I can't continue my drinking because a minority abuse alcohol and/or simply can't handle it?
So why should weed be any different?

Apologies if I've gone slightly off-topic.

Coming from a multi-generational alcholic family, I grew up haitng it along with all drugs. It wasn't until I stared working in a factory that I began to see things a little differently.

The ones who came to work smelling like a fifth of whiskey were dangerous to work beisde, while the pot heads were just slow and happy. The very worst were the ones on prescribed pain killers, anti-depresents, tranquilzers, etc.

If I had to choose a drug to be legal, it wouldn't be prescription meds or alcohol. I no longer feel any condemnation for people who self-medicate over those who do it legally with prescription drugs.

In the grand scheme of world problems, embibing in mj doesn't even move my needle of things to worry about anymore. The fact that so many people feel the need to dull their senses to the world is far more disturbing to me.

I hear what you are saying.

People have always taken drugs of one sort or another, ever since we crawled out of the trees.

People take drugs for all sorts of reasons; to escape, pain relief of various sorts.....and believe it or not because they can be fun and they enjoy it.
Something far, far too many people refuse to accept or acknowledge.
