NY AG Letitia James and Governor Kathy Hochul are convinced that otherwise healthy and constructive members of society could read hateful things on "fringe" social media sites such as 4chan, 8kun, Reddit, Discord, Twitch, and YouTube and turn into bloody murderous mass killers. They are pursuing legislation regarding livestreams, sharing violent content, and moderating sites for hateful, extremist content.

We all know that our attorney general Garland believes parents who don't want their children to be initiated in the gender fluid, overly sexualized CRT cult to be radicalized, so if this legislation passes we can expect to see changes to our ability to speak freely and read opinions contrary to the official line.

reason.com...
abcnews.go.com...

I found a thread in our archives mentioning this very topic in relation to the Sandy Hook massacre and was amazed to consider everything that has changed since then which makes this threat to free speech more plausible
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Free speech has never been about protecting the rights of the powerful but rather the powerless and oppressed in any given society. Free access to information is the best and only way to combat totalitarianism and extremism.

This is an issue at the very heart of ATS.

Here comes the part where the same tactics they used in the AJ lawsuit, that I saw several people here cheering on starts to get used to shut sites like this down.

The lawmakers need to go to forums visited by BLM, ANTIFA, and Inner-City SmashGangs. A lot of destruction and loss of life would have been avoided in 2020 if the so-called "authorities" were on top of their game back then.

I know what the numbers say, I also know how easy it is to have a sham election. Mail-in ballots and dominion machines are a match made in cheater's heaven.

Friendly reminder that nobody ever aims to censor anything that isn't true. Who gets to determine what is "misinformation"? They only want to silence words that threaten their own narrative.

At the end of the day, the same freedom the left has as far as public influence is the same freedom that the right has. The lefties just can't seem to reconcile that.

I find notion that it is ''otherwise healthy and constructive members of society'' that are the concern here. Rather it is the not so healthy, not constructive and mentally immature members of our society that there are concerns about.

of course people are radicalized on the internet. through hate speech and lies. they research. they read. they believe they have learned something, understood something. even if what they have "learned" is hate, lies and incitement. some are becoming paranoid and sometimes violent. breivik radicalized himself on the internet. when here on ats some putin-progandist announces his "news" from russia, many applaud him for it and share these truths in their social network. it flows into everyday life. everything you publish on the internet can be the trigger for something good or bad. the internet is not a lawless space. hate is not an opinion, its a mental illness.

You forgot all the GOP RINO candidates whos' campaigns were heavily funded by the DNC. Add those to the existing high-ranking RINO's and they'll have their perfect perfect one party system.

Hate speech, offensive speech IS free speech.

Nice speech doesn't need a 1st Amendment protection.

People being murdered in the streets. People being murdered in the subway. People being murdered in fast food joints. Smash and grabs devastating businesses. A skyrocketing opioid crisis.

But yeah, NY needs to crack down on websites.

Oh yeah, That autistic furry nazis on 4Chan are friggin geniuses let me tell ya. I don't know why people don't take them more seriously with all their "iTz zE jEwS!" and "WeMoN aRe DiSGuStInG fUr BurfeRs!" and their unironic self-cuckolding.

Lmao.

The media and governmemt get duped by internet trolls far more than the average citizen, and that's saying something since those in media and gov tend to believe their the smartest people ever and that the average citizen is far worse than average when it comes to intelligence.

I wonder how the Chairman Maos, Pol Pots, and Jack the Rippers managed to be so radical without the internet.

It's a mistake to think this only happens on the right. Left leaning crazies pick up their own brand and go off too. Look at the guy who nearly murdered Steve Scalise. He isn't the only example, just the most blatant.

I've never seen any evidence of that.

No matter what side of things we are on, we sometimes say inappropriate things that require moderation.

I've learned to tone down my posting style to avoid this (yes, this is me toned down, lol)
