Exactly, I agree...another massive factor right now is energy costs.
Glass for instance. It's basically just sand, the cost is entirely in the natural gas for the furnace.

Since when has not "having the power" stopped the Liberal Socialists. These are the same clowns who just called the US Supreme Court an "advocacy group".

While I don’t support this administration, nor do I support US citizens working for China…

… please show me the specific articles or legislation giving a president the power to do this.

Oh this is funny..... Do I Dare Say It?

America First.....

Perhaps watching the debacle in Europe with energy has finally made them realize what would happen if China sanctioned us.

No Medicine. No computer chips. limited manufactured goods.

We would be crippled because we outsourced everything we made here overseas.

Yes, you heard that right.. no medicine because 90% of the base ingredients are produced in China.

We must make things that are critical to survival here in our own nation. It is a no brainer.

More than likely a "too little too late" scenario IMO Biden is a joke. He wouldn't do something to ruin that relationship.

I posted an aspect of this a while ago.

People, including Americans were actually enjoying living in China. They felt safer and get this… more FREE.

That is until Covid hit. I guess by doing this they are admitting certain things.
There is some kind of draw there that isn’t here. Money, innovation, freedom…

I agree with this move. We are still a little slow on what we allow compared to other countries.

As much as I'd love manufacturing in the USA -- it's just not realistic.

We can't compete.

I think people will give up their US citizenship rather than come back under force.

Just like the Messiah said. You’d need a magic wand or a time machine.

Wow!

Is hell freezing over this morning?

The Biden regime is actually doing something I agree with?!?!

This could just be another election Campaign ruse that never "materializes" 😎

That's a corporate trope that has been circulated for decades to make people believe that cheap slave labor in other nations is preferable to a domestic labor market.

Money -- Power -- Control

It's not a myth/trope.

Who said preferable. China not cheap enough, move to Bangladesh, Bangladesh not cheap enough, move somewhere else.

There are Made in USA companies. Do you search them out and buy from them? Or do you shop price?

Another interesting article on this.

Apple freezes plans to use China's YMTC chips - Nikkei
"Oct 17 (Reuters) - U.S. tech giant Apple Inc (AAPL.O) has put on hold plans to use memory chips from China's Yangtze Memory Technologies Co (YMTC) in its products, after Washington imposed tighter export controls against Chinese technology companies, the Nikkei reported on Monday.

Apple had originally planned to start using state-funded YMTC's NAND flash memory chips as early as this year, Nikkei said, citing people familiar with the matter. The chips were initially planned to be used only for iPhones sold in the Chinese market."

This will cause China to restrict exports on rare earth metals. The US is still years away from increasing it's on supply of rare earth metals.

I've been trying to find some info in China news regarding all of this.
Not much there. You would think it would be front page news, but it's not.

I did find this tho.

"We hope that the US government can correct these wrong practices in a timely manner, return to the framework of the international trade consultation mechanism of the World Semiconductor Council and Government/Authorities Meeting on Semiconductors (GAMS), fully communicate, effectively exchange views and seek consensus," the association said in a statement.

The secret is "compete with what"?

We already limit what medicine we are allowed to buy. Limit it to US produced only when the time comes. Problem solved.

Also, we have prisons full of people who would love to bank money working in a semi conductor plant to lower their sentence and have a nest egg when they are released. Think of it as "contract to hire". Once released, they can transition to a Full Time Job at the semiconductor plant. OJT... win/win

The more I think about this, the more I wonder if a Chinese invasion of Taiwan is coming soon, and this order is a kind of countermove. The US is committed to aiding Taiwan, which in the event of hostilities means any US citizens working in/for China would be committing treason. This order is, therefor, basically a way of forcing them to pick a side, (or at least giving them fair warning of what's coming).

It's probably not unrelated that several countries (like Serbia and China) just ordered any citizens in Ukraine to leave, like RIGHT EFFING NOW. If Russia does launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, that would be the perfect time for China to invade Taiwan. This ain't the 1940's, and there's no way the US could fight on both fronts at the same time.

That’s exactly what came to my mind too.
There’s a reason they are doing this now.

That's what I expect a dictator to say.

No matter if it's good or bad for the country, these are the words of a mad dictator. It's at least divisive and also a big # you towards the Chinese.

It doesn't ring true with his MO on China in the past.

Makes sense...wreck everything here and trash the economy and societial order. Turn us into a third world then you don't have to outsource for cheap labor...you have plenty at home. Its fits in with all the other policies...
