Hi all.
I love this vacuum cleaner, found it almost brand new looking at a thrift store, and sadly the handle broke.
Right where the metal meets plastic (some known weak spot) model #XL9300 .

Maybe someone here knows how to fix this ? DIY ?

I would love to try it at least, as it's the best vacuum cleaner I've ever had , and I no longer hate vacuuming with this vacuum cleaner

Thanks

Try the manufacturer directly, Parts Warehouse, or even Amazon. Probably in that order. I've had the best luck of the three with Parts Warehouse in the past. Good luck!

I will probably end up having to buy a 'new' vacuum cleaner, or maybe even actually new! I'm not good at fixing things myself, I thought, hoped , for an easy fix

Give the broken part to someone with a 3D printer, have them craft you up a new one. You can find people who do that pretty easily online if you don't know anyone personally.

I understand the struggles of keeping an old vacuum running. We have what I call the Shark of Theseus at this point.

The welding sounds like it would work, if I knew how to weld. Though I do recall my mom having some mini-welding kit at some point, very small , glue gun size.

No welding
That is just a marketing term to say how good the glue is

You push out a line of epoxy from the black tube
Then, you push out a equal lenght line of hardener from the white tube right next to the black line of epoxy

You mix the two until you have a uniform grey paste

Apply to what you want to repair

Let dry

Works real good

Was about to mention repair from either glue or epoxy.

Pretty sure my Dad fixed loads of stuff with JB Weld or something similar, I fixed a lawnmower once, and the handle broke again but on the opposite side of the first use, did it to the other side and the bastard is still working 10 years later. If you prep right and follow the directions it is indeed a quality product.

Duck tape a stick to what's left of the handle and pretend it's a broom; that is if the epoxy doesn't work.

While I made my master in engine mechanics, I did and still do interior repair jobs. Fixing holes, scratches and broken panels, cracked leather, whatever.

There are good glues out there that fuse with heat. It's perfect for that job. You want a slow fusing cyanacrylat glue. They come either premixed and react with oxygen or you can have two component, with filler pebbles also that can be colorized. Don't use the normal super glue that hardens in seconds, you want a slow reaction to fuse they are much stronger.

If possible, roughen the surface of the two parts you want to glue. If they are dirty, you can use dry ice spray to get off the rough dirt. Then use isopropylalcohol solution to clean it. Let it dry off. Then set up a clean space. Apply / mix the glue and then press both parts together as hard as you can. Use a vice and straps, build a contraption if you need to.

Other than the fast superglues, you want long pressure and a lot of it. The glue will heat up and fuse both materials. If you tell me the material I can look for a good glue.

Maybe make a photo. I glued car door handles that take some force with the above stuff and it does not come off.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I feel unsure whether I want to do this or not, the product seems good, but I'm worried I'll mess it up in some way, glue my fingers to it etc.
I've never done something like this , with the weld epoxy? Mostly super glue and vases etc

It's like super glue. But super glue today all have boosters that make them bond faster, but the bond itself is weaker then.

I can relate to being worried, I once did something similar in a customers original Ferrari F40 that had interior damage on the switches. The result was invisible but I sweat a lot since it's a classical car and not too much around anymore.

No risk, no fun we say
