Kinda of begs the question who held the troops back & why?

I recall those concerns circulating as well. A big protest with a large contingent of military troops there to protect them certainly might have presented an image of a military coup and take over of the government rather than a peaceful transfer of power. Not a good look.

So that might answer your question, maybe Trump's people got to him and decided not to marshal the troops to that end, to not give that image.

Or, it may be that Trump wanted to give his people the impression publicly, via his media statements for wanting troops for protection, yet at the same time did NOT want troops because he knew ahead of time what some of his ''hidden troops' were going to engage in.

I knew it was fake and poorly done after watching the accidentally fired in the face teargas shot, then laughing guy, Elizabeth from Knoxville rubbing onions on her eyes, saying she's in a revolution and was maced, the police ushering in people and the sketchbag "Ashley" bloodpill chewing scene.

exactly what I was thinking. Nobody knew a select few would instigate violence. the entire MAGA movement was pro police, pro law enforcement, and anti violence. How 800 or so dipsh!ts thought it was a good time to punch a cop baffles me. Oh, and Orange man bad.

Pretty simple that. And indeed it also does not take a genius to see that he showed little interest in keeping his protesters from their display of patriotism as we could easily see from his lack of commentary over that rather long span of time that the riot was taking place.

I fail to see why that matters. If a thousand NG troops were there "to protect Trump voters", they would also be there to protect the Capitol from whomever was trying to breach it.

CNN's Anderson Cooper on Thursday played exclusive footage shot by Speaker Nancy Pelosi's daughter, documentary filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi, on Jan. 6.

That's why the Secret Service wouldn't let Trump go to the Capitol...they had a credible threat that Nancy Pelosi was going to punch Trump in the face. They had her saying she'd "go to jail and be happy about it!"

Did you miss the part where Trump, on January 3, was asking for troops to protect his demonstrators? He wasn't asking for troops to protect Congress FROM his demonstrators. That kind of says which side he was rooting for.

For what specific purpose they were there for, I do not know, but I do know there was National Guard there on January 6th.

Let me make it perfectly clear that I did not get anywhere near the Capitol on that day, as the closest I got was between the reflecting pool and the Greek statue several hundred yards away from the Capitol, where we stopped to watch the event.

But, the morning of the rally, as we were leaving the hotel, Homewood Suites by Hilton Arlington Rosslyn Key Bridge, there WERE National Guard personnel that staid in the same hotel and rode the elevator down to the ground floor with me as they were being deployed to only they know where. I even turned to one female guardsman and asked, what do you think of what is going on today? She looked me directly in the eyes but said nothing before she looked away. She was one of at least 6 in the elevator I rode down on.
