As a tequila drinker, I remember reading about an upcoming shortage a few years ago.
It seems for a time that the land used to grow the cacti was being used to grow more profitable crops. More cacti was planted, but it would take some
time for it to mature to produce more tequila, which would then have to be aged. So they anticipated a short term shortage. That's the way the story
read, if I recall correctly.
I noticed a brief shortage last year of the top shelf stuff for a few months. Now when I go to the ABC store half the time I have to ask for the big
bottles of 1800. They always have it in the back, as they say it's a high theft item, so they don't keep it on the shelves.
Maybe you're just experiencing a supply chain issue. And maybe I'm just a little bit embarrassed over how much I know about tequila. But, yeah, when
I read a story about a possible tequila shortage, I sit up and pay attention.
