It makes some sense during Rasputitsa but the mud will soon be frozen.

Waves of Wagner Group mercenaries, backed by mobilized reservists, are getting cut down as they rush toward Ukrainian positions. Ukrainian defenders and the remaining civilians, pinched on two sides by advancing Russian forces and under constant bombardment, are suffering heavy losses as well.

Gains on both sides are minuscule, measured in meters. Ukrainian troops are holding on after months of attacks, though Russian forces appear to be closing in.

29 November Update

Key Takeaways

* Russian forces made marginal gains around Bakhmut on November 29, but Russian forces remain unlikely to have advanced at the tempo that Russian sources claimed.

* The United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (MoD) reported that Russian forces have likely stopped deploying battalion tactical groups (BTGs) in the past three months, supporting ISW’s prior assessments.

* Russian forces continued to defend against Ukrainian counteroffensive operations around Svatove as Ukrainian forces continued counteroffensive operations around Svatove and Kreminna.

* Russian forces continued limited ground attacks west of Kreminna to regain lost positions.

* Russian forces conducted ground attacks near Siversk and Avdiivka, and in western Donetsk Oblast.

* Russian forces continued strengthening defensive positions in eastern Kherson Oblast as Ukrainian forces continued striking Russian force concentrations in southern Ukraine.

In 9 months, Russia has already spent a quarter of its annual budget on the war, but the needs of the war will only grow 1/20

82 billion and yet to hear the the stories coming from the russian troops, they haven't got a pot to piss in. one rifle and 5 bullets between 10 men. sucks to be a russian soldier.

The propaganda is very high here from both sides.

Western media side, try’s not to show Ukrainian soldiers who ride mopeds hitching ancient machine guns that came from ww1.

Or soldiers that look like that were pulled out from the projects at 3am from a drunken stupor.

Which there’s a lot of these poorly conditioned soldiers because Ukraine gov has been drafting anyone and everyone off the street.

After all, Zelensky is constantly going around with a beggars bowl for more cash and military aid.

Yet, on social media there’s random people from pro Ukraine side saying how Ukrainian soldiers have saunas in their trenches now, and show “model soldiers” with puppies in their holsters lol.

"Nato restates pledge to make Ukraine a member"

Russia and China are going to escalate no doubt following this.

"Foreign ministers from the alliance who met in Bucharest, the Romanian capital where Nato leaders first pledged in 2008 that Ukraine and Georgia would eventually become members of the alliance, said on Tuesday that they “firmly stand behind our commitment” to both countries despite Russia’s military aggression.

That initial declaration, despite not being accompanied by a formal admission procedure or any tangible progress, was cited by Moscow as one reason for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February. Putin has accused Nato of seeking to bring the former Soviet state into the alliance in order to station weapons there that could threaten Russia."

NATO already has plenty of weapons that could threaten Russia.

Yeah because NATO *really* need Ukraine to threaten Russia... Just ignore those 5000 nuclear warheads around the world already pointing at strategic targets in Russia.

The real answer is that Ukraine in NATO would have stopped Russias ability to annex Ukraine and recreate the Soviet Union.

Ukraine had been denied membership of NATO and had been told in no uncertain terms it never would....until Russia invaded.

And need I mention The Budapest Memorandum whereby Russia guaranteed to respect Ukraine's borders and independence and to NEVER invade Ukraine in return for all their nuclear weapons.

And you really got to wonder if Russia has the resources to enable it to escalate?

Russian's have their sense of pride. Like any great power center they have their near abroad. They had their snout rubbed in it post '91. Ever heard of a balance of power? Reverse everything and have Moscow formenting revolutions in Canada and Mexico, installing their own puppet regimes, bringing in 'military advisors' from the CSTO and shackling those nations to their economic model. You honestly think the Yanks would stand by and accept this without pushing back? I would expect a little more than the Special Operation, more like Shock and Awe and a little bit of Iraqification

Yet Ben Wallace
has 'vacationed' in Ukraine every year since 2014 to get a sun tan on the Black Sea coast? Truth be told him and NATO have Ukraine in their sights just like every other colonisation they've taken on post 1991 and will never give up until the strangulation of Russian interests is complete.

Ha ha mate.

I'm not quite sure if anyone's favourite holiday destinations is evidence of a country's desire to control somewhere.
My favourite holiday spot is The Canary Islands - doesn't mean I want to be King Of Spain or that I'd like to annex them into the UK.

The undeniable FACT remains that NATO turned down Ukraine's request to join it and was told in no uncertain terms that it wasn't going to be allowed to join.

One word................. China

You've seen my post earlier and above about a joint Russian Chinese flight into South Korea? NATO arrogance has pushed these two nations into an unwanted yet needed alliance. Now Xi has his third term expect Russia to get the number one manufacturing nation supplying them through the back door................ Indeed it's already happening, plus Xi said yesterday the two nations must become more integrated on the energy front.
