Ukraine’s Maritime Drone Strikes Again: Reports Indicate Attack On Novorossiysk

Novorossiysk is a major naval base and oil terminal on Russia’s Black Sea coast. At 420 miles (675 km) from Odesa, it is much further from Ukrainian held territory than Sevastopol. It has until now been regarded as out of range of Ukrainian attacks..

Attacking oil infrastructure makes strategic sense for Ukraine. Russia has targeted Ukrainian industry and civilian infrastructure on multiple occasions, even making it a strategy. Even without damaging the infrastructure this attack could affect Russia’s ability to export crude oil.

The navy base in Novorossiysk, close to the oil terminal which was reportedly hit, is also an important target. This is the home of many warships directly involved in the war with Ukraine. These include the Kilo Class submarines which were largely moved there from Sevastopol in September. The submarines can launch Kalibr cruise missiles and remain a daily threat to Ukraine.

Several large landing ships, which were sailed to the Black Sea in the build-up for the invasion, are also based there. Radar satellite from around early this morning shows that many of the warships were in port. It also shows only one smaller tanker at the main oil terminal pier. This may have been a factor in the limited damage reported.

The Ukrainian drone boat went right by russia's entire kilo class sub fleet and most of their surviving Black Sea surface fleet, all of them completely unaware and defenseless, to take out the fleet's gas pump!

That was one helluva message.

Note: This was on RUSSIAN territory.

Not the pretend russian territory temporarily stolen from Ukraine.

The russian fleet at a russian base, on actual russian territory.

Russia: "You sank my battleship's oil supply!"

Strategic hit by Ukraine. Much more targeted than throwing missiles all over the place.

18 November Update

* Russian forces reinforced rear areas in Luhansk Oblast and attempted to regain lost positions as Ukrainian troops continued counteroffensive operations along the Svatove-Kreminna line.

* Russian forces continued limited ground assaults near Bakhmut and Avdiivka and in western Donetsk Oblast.

* Russian occupation officials and military leadership are seemingly increasingly concerned about subsequent Ukrainian counteroffensive operations in southern Ukraine.

Cheers

Ukraine didn't target the oil storage facility (which they easily could have), only the easily repairable fueling facility (gas pump), so I think this one was 100% 'message'.

"We can easily sink your entire fleet if you fling any more kalibers at us."

- AND -

"We are serious about negotiating an end to the war and aren't interested in escalating."

The latest Russian Dude included a short clip of something pretty spectacular (which The Dude didn't completely realize).

Ukraine hit a critical railroad track in Ilovaisk with Excalibur on the first shot from over 20 miles away, striking within 8 inches (200mm) from it's dead center aim point.

8 inch first round precision from over 20 miles.

Now that's precision!

The bad news: Someone forgot to arm something.

Are the russians out if, or critically low on, cruise missiles? They appear to be launching "training" missiles at Ukraine...

A "nuclear warhead simulator" was screwed to one of the missiles shot down yesterday over Kyiv. The publication's experts suggested that this could mean that Russia has run out of cruise missiles if it tries to use cruise missiles from its nuclear arsenal.

ISW believes they have seriously drawn down their inventory of missiles, thus the moves to buy missiles from Iran.

"There cab be no peace on Russia's terms" - Zelensky.

Those conversations will now be impacted by Zelenskyy’s clarion call for continued resistance to Russia, even if Moscow wants a break.

“Peace is possible,” Zelenskyy said, “but for it to exist, we must make impossible Russian aggression [in] all of its elements. Let it happen. Let there be peace.”

Ukraine will also find strong backing from a bipartisan group of lawmakers in Halifax. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), one of the leaders of the delegation, underscored that there continues to be “very strong bipartisan support” for support for Ukraine on Capitol Hill.

“We share the same sentiment...that this war is about a lot more than whether Ukraine is able to maintain their territorial integrity,” Shaheen said on a panel after Zelenskyy’s remarks.

Nobody was smoking this time, just a continuation of yesterday's 'message'.

"Stop hurling missiles at Ukrainian civilians every day or we're going to attack your oil infrastructure every day with zero fear of your 'threats'.

First message was delivered on a naval base 25 miles from putin's palace, this one in St Petersburg, I wouldn't be surprised if moscow was Next tomorrow - that's entirely up to putin.

russia is currently throwing a tantrum about it, apparently not realizing the absolute irony of their complaints.

Context: Zelinsky was refusing putin's demands for a 'short term cease fire'.

As he should, nobody is interested in a temporary cease fire while russia brings in newly trained forces, we want PEACE. Which means russia withdrawing from Ukraine, as an absolute minimum.

Curiously, withdrawing from Ukraine wasn't even one of the 2 of Zelinsky's opening 10 negotiating points that russia threw a public and violent tantrum about.

'Reparations' were BY FAR the largest stumbling block according to russia's immediate public reaction, which I see as 'hopeful'.

“Russia is now looking for a short truce, a respite to regain strength,” he said. “Someone may call this the war’s end. But such a respite will only worsen the situation.”

Zelinsky's actual untwisted words, and EXACTLY the 'context' claimed.

Cute.

The whole quote:

"Russia is now looking for a short truce, a respite to regain strength. Someone may call this the war’s end, but such a respite will only worsen the situation.

Immoral compromises will only lead to new blood, an “honest peace” can only be achieved by “the complete demolition of Russian aggression.

EXACTLY as claimed.

I agree 100% !!!

It takes two to negotiate, and you just quoted both Zelinsky offering and peskov refusing to participate.

Thanks for playing along!

Demands don't equal negotiations.

Kind of like how multiple sock accounts don't equal integrity, honesty or benefit of the doubt......
