In this 1860 painting by Austrian artist Ferdinand George Waldmüller. we see a young lady taking a stroll whilst using her Smartphone.

Obviously it's not a phone, but it's a bit of fun.

Lol, nice painting. Your right, it's for fun. Giving the ara, I would take what she is holding is a Diary or Bible... Or Dickens.

I seen this last night in my NewsBreak app. Mostly crap articles with little to no sources and mostly opinion pieces IMO.

It is an interesting picture that demonstrates pareidolia perfectly. Too me I see a woman with gift for her lover on their anniversary. Though that's just my opinion. It really isn't worth a hell of a lot.

According to the description it's a song book.

YouTube tells me she is holding a prayer book.

Although in the nineteenth century that may be code for pornography or propaganda lol

Apologies for the speculation, YouTube videos have been known to sell fairy dust and misinformed tales of fantasy.

There may be some historical connotations to the pink Rose

I didn't watch YouTube, I just looked at the painting.

Naughty literature it may be. I have some notes with drawings from George Ade and Samuel Clemens.

Steamy stuff.

This painting came across my YouTube feed early this morning so I read the blurb

I’ve been told before that sex is 90% in your head. I’d imagine this would have been self evident to anyone when books were contraband and reading was a specialist skill.

looks like she's going to be startled by that boy in the bottom corner and then fall off that ledge to the left. distracted walking was just as much a thing back then as it is now.

I think she's holding a chocolate candy bar. He wants some of it, but she's not willing to share it with him. That's why she's holding on tight with both hands.

Well I can barely get a signal with three towers in plain sight so I bet she has zero bars...

Look how the boy is dying inside. His face is like "nooo I was too late, I messed it up, I had one job to do and that time machine and I had to stop at McDrive"

😂

Yeah, if that was a phone, and being in that remote location, she'd definitely be holding it up in the air trying to get a signal.

I would be squeezing that bible as well if I walked into the woods and found a weirdo waiting with one pink flower, while he threw the rest of them on the ground

"pls dear God make him go away!"

Thank you, I can now see the knife. The dagger is concealed inside the pages. It is the eventual dagger she stabs his heart and back with. 😉

Or a little box of an early version of pepperspray for boys who lurk in bushes.
