"Russia knows who it was behind the Northstream"

Then why aren't they presenting any evidence with their constant 24 hour accusations?

Well I hope that before the mushroom clouds, I get a chance to knock off someone who thought Ukraine was worth it.

Go get him!

(Probably not wise to threaten putin online like that)

Turkey removed its objection in June and accession talks were completed in July , Finland and Sweden could join NATO by Christmas following a vote by member states.

If Ukraine is allowed to join NATO, it will lead to nuclear exchange. Russia is in conflict with Ukraine, so allowing Ukraine to join during the conflict would place Russia at war with NATO. Putin has already admitted he cannot win such a war using traditional weapons. He has also stated on several occasions that he will use nukes if it is the only way to maintain Russian sovereignty.

He won't be firing them at Ukraine. France, maybe. Britain, probably. USA, definitely. Is this really what everyone wants?

Ukraine can't actually join NATO while it has a territorial dispute with russia.

Zelinsky wants membership after the war, as protection against yet another russian invasion.

He's been mentioning it in his daily speeches for a couple months now, but until yesterday always referred to it as 'western security guarantees', which was a stumbling block in earlier 'negotiations' with russia.

Notably, NATO did not welcome Zelinsky's NATO announcement, probably because they recognized it as the propaganda stunt that it was.

I didn't like it either, it was very dangerous.

And misleading.

No , but we should also ask is this what Russia wants ?

Faced with Mutually Assured Destruction brought about by a leader who's political capital has been severely diminished in the last 7 months an order to launch could be met with a different response to the one Putin is expecting.

And yet, here we are discussing the possibility.

Is it any wonder Putin is upset over Ukraine? Look what we did during the Cuban Missile Crisis... this is an identical situation with the roles reversed.

So you are OK with Russia wiping out Britain as long as it's clearly "their fault"?

One nuclear warhead would make Britain uninhabitable for thousands of years and destroy 90% of the country. That includes Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.

Just one missile = 100% casualties.

Didn't Putin ask to join NATO about 20 years ago!?

I wonder why he was told no... Could it be that an organisation set up for war needs an enemy to legitimise itself 🤔.

Not saying Putin is a good guy but neither am I saying the other side is above reproach.

It seems everyone enjoys a bit of theatre when viewed from afar.

Dont worry NATO will save us from the great bear after they are done poking it with a big stick.

Crikey!

There is no single nuclear warhead that could do that.

Nuclear weapons are horrifc and should never be used but let's stay out of the realms of sci-fi.

I didn't say that.

The annexation is a desperate ploy by a leader who has failed at every stage of the Ukraine intervention , would the Kremlin let him bring destruction to Russia by launching a preemptive strike ?

I don't think so.

A billions of dollars piece of essential infrastructure to Europe was destroyed permanently. Germany used forty percent of the energy supply from it. If it was just Shut down it could be opened up again, but destroyed it can't. follow the money. Who now supplies Europe with the higher-priced gas. Who profits ...who would want Russia out of the gas market permanently?

Is it conceivable that billions of dollars worth of infrastructure can be destroyed without risking a quid pro quo? So who will cop it next?

Ukraine will NEVER be a NATO member.....never.... the world WILL be destroyed before this ever happens.

Never say "never". Ukraine won't become a member of Nato during this current conflict that Russia started. But Ukraine may join after the defeat of Russia. Probably other countries would also be allowed to join, because Russia are just not very nice neighbours.

All the "you don't poke a bear" brigade need to remember that it was the bear who came crashing into Ukraine, and Ukraine have pretty much declawed that bloated hairy imperialist.

On Nato. Nato and the west will continue to arm and support Ukraine to defend their country and to retake land occupied by the Russian invaders. If Russia acts in ways that are completely intolerable (nukes, chemical/bio), then Ukraine could expect actual support that would see the Russian military completely destroyed. One week under a Nato imposed "no-fly zone" would remove Russian forces across Ukraine, and no messing.

The bear would be put down.

NATO was originally designed to combat two forces: Germany and the USSR. After the USSR dissolved, Germany was accepted into NATO. Russia was not. That leaves one purpose of NATO: to fight Russia.

To be fair, he did it in response to putin announcing the illegal annexation of Ukrainian territory.

No, there were actual missiles involved in cuba, Ukraine only ever had the imaginary missiles in putin's deranged mind.

But yeah, the last 2 days have been good examples of the russia-Ukraine 'battle' for the last 15 years.

The bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima was a firecracker compared to what is out there now.

Believe what you want, but it's not scifi. Not everyone would die in the blast, but those who were left would die within a few weeks of agony from the radiation. Not years; weeks. There would be no survivors.

russia was offered membership, they didn't like some of the membership requirements - like no neighbor invading for land grabs.
