Better hope those volcanic rifts under that glacier stop melting that ice.

So, they are saying that this one ice shelf has about 35,640,000,000,000,000 cubic feet of water? Because that's how much water is needed to raise the sea levels by ten feet globally. The more I read stories like this, the more I realize that most of the people that took advantage of the legalizing of certain substances are college kids.

No, they are not (the headline is, as often the case, misleading and contradicted by the actual story below )

What they are saying (per the story in the OP) is - as everyone here must know (cos we're not stupid sheeple and we actually read stuff, right?) :

[the Thwaites Glacier is] just a faction of the West Antarctic ice sheet, which holds enough ice to raise sea level by up to 16 feet, according to NASA.

Well, we still understand math is not many people's subject. These guys are Doom porn masters. Nothing they have doom porn predicted came true so far. The Earth will not get much more feet of water because most of the ice is literally over water or resting on the sea bed in a water environment. The simple matter is "they" need us afraid of our own shadows so "they" can continue to gain unstoppable powers.

Heres some of the famous lyrics from Tool" Anema"

"One great big festering neon distraction
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied
Learn to swim, learn to swim, learn to swim
'Cause Mom's gonna fix it all soon
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be

Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim

F*ck L. Ron Hubbard and
F*ck all his clones
F*ck all these gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes

Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim

F*ck retro anything
F*ck your tattoos
F*ck all you junkies and
F*ck your short memories

Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim

Yeah, f*ck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas
F*ck these dysfunctional
Insecure actresses

Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim
Learn to swim, learn to swim

'Cause I'm praying for rain
I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way
I wanna watch it all go down
Mom, please flush it all away
I wanna see it go right in and down
I wanna watch it go right in
Watch you flush it all away
Yeah, time to bring it down again
Yeah, don't just call me pessimist
Try and read between the lines
I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend
I wanna see it come down
Put it down
Suck it down
Flush it down

I love this song.

you know,it rather astounds me how gullible the democrat/liberal masses are. as they completely ignore nature, and anything else other than their specific causes.

when it was global warming they completely left out "heat production", instead going on about greenhouse gases. so those greenhouse gasses stop heat from being released from the earth, as well as creating heat. but absolutely no talk about actually cutting down on the heat created by just about everything humans do. for example where was the talk about stopping all the heat created by things like hydro electricity, and nuclear reactors, that heats up the water they use (bad enough for the environment all on their own due to that heat pollution in those waters. or how about the heat that cars create? an average ICE vehicle each puts out about 200 degrees. that is millions of cars putting out that heat, not to mention trucks, buses and trains and the heat they putout. and electric cars are no better. with an electric car, it;s not just the motor putting out heat, but those batteries powering them, are also putting out a lot of heat, so much so, that they need special air conditioning systems to keep them cool enough to stop the battery from igniting itself from that heat it produces (it;s even the same on my RC car, the motor gets, hot, the speed controller gets hot (even needs a heat sink to dissipate that heat to the environment, and man those batteries are burning hot after running. quite literally everything humans do causes the earth to heat up, from the heat we create.

it;s the same for this silly drivel about the rising ocean levels. they go on and on with doom porn about glaciers melting (part of the natural cycle), and flooding everywhere. yet never mention the billions of gallons of water flowing into the oceans, from land as it has done since the glaciers that covered a lot of the earth melted. it puts 367,328 cu ft of water PER SECOND onto the ocean, and isn't even close to being the only large river system doing so. which is the real cause of rising ocean levels, as it has been throughout history. but no, they ignore reality when it comes to their insane ideas.

You seem to have left out my personal favorite parts of the song.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see Armageddon soon.
Certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this bull# three-ring circus sideshow of freaks.

Here in this hopeless #ing hole we call L.A.
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any #ing time. Any #ing day.
Learn to swim, see you down in Arizona Bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by fault lines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dip #s.

And some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see Armageddon soon.
Certainly hope we will
I sure could use a vacation from this stupid #, silly #, stupid #.

We're in an inter-glacial period.

Glaciers are going to recede for quite a few thousand years more before they start back up again.

That's how the cycle goes.

Nothing to be done about it.

The West Antarctic Ice sheet is on land. "If" it all melted it would raise sea levels by many feet. That's simple maths. However, it won't happen all at once, but gradually over many decades/centuries.

Yes, journalists are doom porn masters - sensationalist headlines sell copy (even when consistently incorrect or misleading). So ignore the headlines and read the actual story - preferably checking any references provided.

And as for predictions: well, they predicted hotter, drier summers (but with more intense rainfall when it came) due to global warming. And guess what?

We're in (or were in) the Neoglacial - glaciers and ice sheets had been advancing for the past few thousand years since the peak of the current interglacial. This due to declining axial tilt. Tilt is still declining, glaciers should still be growing (especially at the poles - but not enough to trigger a full glacial) but they are not. Instead they are melting - more especially at the poles. Something has changed. Oh, yeah, we doubled the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere ....

we doubled the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere

When did this happen?

The minimum level for efficient plant growth is between 250-280 ppmv CO2. We were at 280 ppmv prior to the Industrial Revolution. Now we're at 400 ppmv. In what mathematical fantasy is 2 x 280 = 400?

If we get it much lower than it was, we're going to starve. Plants will grow so slowly there won't be enough food to sustain the food chain. In what philosophical universe is that a good thing?

CO2 levels have been many times higher in the past than they are today, as high as 1500-2000 ppmv. Why didn't the planet die off then? Incidentally, that link goes to an article that tries (unsuccessfully) to establish a link between pre-historical CO2 levels and pre-historical global temperatures. It fails because a close examination of the graphs reveals that temperature changes lead CO2 levels, not the other way around.

Before you go there, humans are fine at CO2 levels up to 1000 ppmv. That's the typical CO2 level in a "stuffy" office or apartment... not from heating or industrial activity, but commonly from a lot of people in an enclosed space breathing. That's right... we breath out carbon dioxide! As a matter of fact, our exhaled breath normally contains around 38 thousand (38,000) ppmv... so we put on a face mask to keep it in.

You have fallen for the single greatest scam modern politics has ever used... the very idea that CO2 is bad for anything is ludicrous. It helps plants to grow, meaning the planet "greens" and can sustain more life, is basically inert except for photosynthesis, and any "greenhouse effect" it presents is limited to a tiny portion of the EM spectrum. Water vapor? That covers a huge area of the EM spectrum. Methane covers a much larger part than CO2. But somehow, the general population has become convinced that this colorless, odorless gas that is responsible for life's ability to exit on the planet and which floats harmlessly in the atmosphere at levels so low it is negligent (we're talking 0.04%!) is going to turn the planet into a fiery flood.

Snap out of it, man!

You do realize that the amount of c02 put out by humans over the last 100 years is less than a few percent of the amount put out over the same time repeatedly for hundreds of thousands of years "pre-human civilization", due to unchecked nation-wide and even world-wide wildfires alone.

Because we now have some control over fire, we have actually negated the amount of c02 going into the atmosphere and what we have put back in ourselves is totally insignificant.

We have barely made an impact..!!

In fact we have began to reduced the amount of pollutants going into the atmosphere by gaining a partial control of natural disasters, stopping them before they do become as large as they used to before we were around.

We are still technically in an ice age and yes you are partly correct, the earths tilt has a lot to do with the cycles, but so does the elliptical orbit that changes over thousands of years, and a number of other factors too.

No one interglacial period is the same and there have been even greater run-offs in the past. You only have to look at the rise and fall of sea levels in pre-history to know this.
