The media loves Trump, like the UK media loved Boris Johnson, because he generates a lot of news. Not just slow news but bing-bang-bosh fast dramatic news. The kind that engages the audiences that advertisers want. Win-win.

The problem is that the media need him and will give him, like Johnson, so much of an easy ride that some people see any kind of objectivity as an attack on their man.

If we look at what's been happening in the UK, the media got tired of defending the indefensible and turned their back on Johnson. Without the easy ride, he's exposed as the venal, lazy, elitist he always was. They've moved on.

Trump could soon find himself without the implicit support of the mass media and, hardcore partisans aside, people will realise the emperor was always naked.

If they didn't like him, they wouldn't give him airtime. To paraphrase Margaret Thatcher, they could have starved him of the oxygen of publicity.

He and the mass media are in a productive symbiosis but that does not mean they are his cheerleaders. What seem like attacks are often the media reporting undeniable facts. But, like I said, objectivity will seem like an attack to the passionate partisan.

Way way WAY more often than not, what seem like attacks are often the media reporting unsubstantiated lies.
Because, if they were FACTS, he'd be indicted and standing trial by now, no need for a raid on his home.
We've had the SAME goddam laundry list of ACCUSATIONS for going on 6+ years. All trying to nail a man described by his enemies as a mouth-breathing moron. Can you see the problem here?

Because I'm not blindly partisan.

Neither do I share your Marxist idea that the media is an ideological instrument.

In short, the mass media exists to capture audiences for its advertisers. The advertisers pay the bills. Every show, song, webpage is product designed to channel people to its advertisers. It is as close to the free market as you are going to get in a Western economy. It is amoral and apolitical.

Trump, like Johnson, is product. While the product is popular, the media will push it. When it becomes a liability, the media will turn away from it. When was the last time the mass media gave Noam Chomsky ten minutes?

I support President Trump, but I'd rather
have a revolution. If he'd support
term limits that would be a plus also.
