The Ritz, for example, in Cape Town must have been open since the 1970's.

I recall going up there with my grandparents, and despite a very good buffet for the time, one incident takes me back.
But I'm talking 1980's back, so just a memory, not a comment on the place now.

There was an obvious snail in the salad.

So I say: "And what's that"?

And then the Askhari-dressed waiter squished it between his fingers.

"That young sir, was a lemon pip".

Well played.

Never-mind that the whole floor was slowly rotating round-and-round.

Not saying it's necessarily always as bad as this:

But does the fact that the restaurant spins, add to it's charm?

I think you should go for the view, but many outlooks no longer reflect that.

It's a bit like a horizontal Ferris-wheel.

"Thanks so much for taking me to the revolving restaurant".

Nah, this is just the McDonald's.

You got a massive hangover.

While I've had many experiences of spinning in the early morning hours at various Waffle Houses in my youth, I do recall we had a real spinning restaurant

Had one for decades in Atlanta the Sundial at the Westin, though I believe they have stopped it since a kid got crushed to death

and before that Atlanta had the blue hamburger at the Hyatt Regency, from the famed Atlanta developer John Portman(RIP)

We used to have a rotating restaurant in Seattle (SkyCity), but it is now a cocktail lounge with rotating glass floor. I grew up in a house just a couple of blocks away from the Space Needle, but I've only paid to take the elevator up to the top a couple of times with visiting relatives. It's a cool experience if you are in Seattle, but so overpriced that you should only do it if you have buckets of cash.

Had breakfast in the Space Needle restaurant when I was a kid on vacation with family. I had a German apple pancake-like dish. It was quite good, and really neat to watch the view slowly scroll by as we ate.

Then we headed to Vancouver, B.C. for a day trip. Had my first taste of salmon on the ferry ride back to Seattle.

Haven't stopped loving salmon since!

The Post Office tower in London had a revolving restaurant.
Then the IRA left a bomb, so they closed it.
