Wilbur winced. Didn’t come here to die!

A wrong turn, lost in arid hills. Now the convoy pinned down. Gawdamn Africa Corps!

Some Nazi Daniel Boone stitching them with automatic fire anytime anyone moved…

Lahtnin’ will have to strike twice to escape this…

Sudden screaming: Germans sprawled over their motorcycles. Bayonets glint.

Ay-rabs! Fierce faces. We’re dead now!

His men stunned as grim tribesmen loot trucks, murmuring approval at goods piled up.

Chief approaches. Unsure, Wilbur salutes.

Big, toothy grin. Finger points to hills. “Aww-may-ree-ka”

A Tricoleur hoisted. French colonial troops!

With mules and loot, Berbers depart. Vive la France.

THE END

For those curious, the Berber tribesmen mentioned in the story are Goumiers, colonial troops of the French Empire who were renowned for their skill in close combat.

Cheers

A neat read that gave me the feeling of chewing on desert sand. One suspects Wilbur recently arrived in the region and has much to learn.
