In the UK, for example, there are few barriers between people and the outdoors.
Even cows are rarely "enzoned".

So the question is: what if one releases the wolf back into Britain?

According to some "rewilding" is a terrible idea.

There was a documentary done years ago about the return of wolves to Yellowstone. The reintroduction of wolves literally changed the course of rivers it had such a dramatic affect on the entire ecosystem. It returned it to where it should have been all along. It is considered one of the best decisions ever made in favor of the park and wildlife in general.

Good lord. Just listening to the opening of your clip caused me pain. I’ll watch the rest, but it sounds a lot like the woke nonsense KS WILD sycophants in Oregon would yammer on about.

Those of us that hunt, wildcraft, forage and placer mine gold, have had to listen to soft handed University rich kids, who can’t “camp” without a shower make utterly idiotic statements about wanting to “ see a cougar up close in the wild,” or something similar in regard to wolves, bears etc…

We have a term for those same people wearing headphones and walking with walking sticks in the mountains back West: BAIT

Predators eat other animals, they’re carnivores and especially opportunistic. Little Alfie and his sister won’t be off playing in the woods if you bring apex pack predators back to England. Her statements at the beginning were ridiculous.

December 6, 2021 - And Idaho might be the country’s worst offender when it comes to persecuting wolves. Idaho recently approved nearly $400,000 of taxpayer money to kill wolves. This comes a year after organizations funded a bounty program paying hunters and trappers up to $1,000 per wolf killed within the state.

The natives wolves were driven to extinction, so they imported Canadian wolves. The problem was, Canadian wolves are a much larger species. Since wolves are one animal that kills just for the fun of killing, they've done quite a number on the deer and elk population.
As you can guess, that creates a large division, and all the fun that goes along with it....but the wolves have flourished, and their numbers have grown. And grown. And grown.
Ranchers are compensated for the growing number and wolf kills, and programs have been used to try and control their overpopulation, but they don't come cheap.
There's a lot to think about. Mother Nature did it right the first time.

In fairness, let's also consider death by cattle.

Ok, I watched the 1st one. I mean, look “rewilding” has a great deal of glamour and I think most people on some level would like to see nature balanced, with the return of carnivores, large roaming animals which are there quarry etc. The fact is, it will require a massive reduction in population of humans, in both cities as well as rural settings.

Much like the motive in eugenics to reduce population and qualifying breeding, it boils down to who has the right to chose who will be removed to make the way?

Fun conversation, I don’t believe most city dwellers have the aptitude to survive outside of a city. I’ve laughed pretty hard inside at a couple skaters trying to split wood. The ultra wealthy are even worse off outside of their capacity to hire others to do the menial tasks for them.

My family and friends stand a very good chance of survival in a “rewilded” world, but not guaranteed. Nature is a cruel mistress. Careful what you wish for is my only real offer to the conversation.

Public warned after pack of wolves released into Suffolk countryside
. . .
Experts say dog walkers in the area should keep their pets on a lead, while small children will be encouraged to remain in the car.

The six wolves will be released on April 25, after which local farmers worried about their livestock will be urged to check their animals regularly and report any that go missing.
www.suffolkgazette.com...

Experts say we release the wolves, you walk in little terrified circles around your car with your under-exercised dog while the children stare at the forbidden countryside through misted up windows. If you're so unwoke as to be a farmer merely working all day to feed the public then get out more. Check your animals regularly with all that free time you've got and report any that go missing. It's unclear how reporting a missing sheep will help you run the farm. Also unclear if half a sheep going missing is to be reported.

A few days ago European Bison were released in Kent. The whole operation must be hugely expensive, but it's described as animals restoring woodland 'for free'.

City folk can survive outside of a city pretty easily, I've learned since moving out of the city and in the woods... where everywhere you go within a 30-45 mile radius is farm land and cattle, F-150s, blue jeans, baptist churches.

Its not really as important as one might think... to be near anything like a "society" or "community". Its actually pretty cool not having contact with the "public" or anything related to commerce and consumerism for months at a time.

Out here in the sticks, I could grab my firearm, drink coffee, and fire off as many rounds as I want for breakfast. [of course, I would never do that due to years of watching online videos of firearm mishaps and am not nearly as fascinated as your regular outdoorsman]

Encountered one in a European forest once.

Happily, it was a shy juvenile that wanted as much space from me as I wanted from it.

Glad I didn't run into a pack of them.

Cheers

yep another ploy of Eugenics,,,,

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth

see, the 4th horseman of Apocalypse, on a 'pale horse' is equipped to slaughter 25% of useless people

the beasts of earth include virus pandemics and mammals like Wolves...
your Wild-Life donation is really a Eugenics program in sheeps clothing, Eh?

But why did they import Canadian wolves, when there are plenty of them in Europe? Why not importing Iberian wolves? Whoever took that decision knows nothing about the ecosystem he is supposed to recover.

I was just pointing out how it created additional problems in the USA when it was done. This was in Idaho/Washington. With Canada being our northern border, I think it was probably the cheapest, most practical solution. Besides. Canada has no shortage of wolves....

It will look a lot like idaho does right now since most of our state is open BLM land

Ask our farmers and ranchers how bad it's affected them from the Canadian border till close to boise

It's decimated elk and moose numbers here as well

Doesn't help they introduced a non native species

It's gotten bad enough we have an actual tag you can buy every year now
