NATO is an alliance and not a single country and military. So the focus is on interoperability among different languages and militaries of varying
sizes and equipment. So the notion concerning NATO standards relating to Prisoner of Wars (POW) or Battlefiled detainees is on thin ground. By the
turn of the century, issues related to POWs were no longer in Australians or Kiwi's living memories. (The U.S. dealt with POW associated issues during
the Vietnam War).
So the toxic madness that gripped the treatment of battlefield detainees captured by coalition forces in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars unfolded, but
that is another discussion.
