We should tax all imports and do away with all taxes as the founding fathers intended.
....

Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of the US Constitution:

"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States; . . ."

What makes you think the founding fathers intended to do away with all taxes?

The leftist elites hate hydrogen cause it provides too much range. It's not just zero emissions, it's limiting mobility they are after.

We are working to stop the Department of Commerce from killing 230,000 solar jobs by setting punitive tariffs of up to 250% on components of solar panels imported to the United States, upending ten years of solar trade policy.

Is it an across-the board tariff, or just certain countries?

We need a long-term plan for getting OUT from enemies like China. But in the process we shouldn't kneecap fair trade with allies such as Australia! Yes it's a lot to ask for this administration to fully consider things...

Except where does the electricity come from...it sure isn't solar and wind...that is a pipe dream. Also not one likes nuclear so those don't seem to be the solution for most folks. Well our electricity comes from fossile fuels...so next time some twat in their electric car goes off about how much good they're doing the environment you can remind them that it makes no difference if the fuel is burned in their car or an a power plant...its going to be burned.

Curious to see if all the 'tariffs are good people' who I said 'tariffs are bad' to once upon a time will now think tariffs are bad.

Put another way, it's amusing that all the 'tariffs are bad people' suddenly think tariffs are good.

Didn't the previous POTUS also try and raise tariffs and limit trade to try and promote the profitability of in-country manufacturing and development?

Seems to me like you oppose the policy only based upon who is doing it.

The windmills are also hideous, ugly ass beauty destroying inefficient junk. Why cant the tap into a volcanic thermo vein to boil water into steam and electric.

They may as well tap into Yellowstone and relieve some pressure while their at it.

Do you support tariffs in both cases? Please clarify as I don't want to assume anything before asking anything further.

Even though there were attempts at a federal income tax, It took ratification of the sixteenth amendment for that to happen. Before that, the federal government collected money from import and excise taxes.

Ideally, it would be great to have free trade and let commercial forces and competition make things efficient, but with different currencies and varying market forces over time, sometimes a country must protect its production.

To be clear, the tariffs get passed on to consumers, and so are ultimately not in favor of the consumers from that country, and local manufacturers set pricing based upon anti-competetive pressures, and therefore it acts to suppress the economy overall, and over time.

I am not a fan of tariffs, BUT china's manipulation of the markets needs to be addressed and they are a measure that can be used against them.

While especially right now I dont like paying more for products if the end result it helps bring industry home then I will suck it up.

Of course the clown show in DC will remove them without china having to give up a single thing.

So glad we dont have mean tweets anymore.

Sure he did but this is Solar, not metal or auto parts. Solar is next generation. Then again both could be argued that they are doing it to promote USA manufacturing and / or North America manufacturing which is what the USA and the continent needs.

Lets watch where this goes because if a shortage develops in that sector he pulled the string too quick. off topic but doesn't Taiwan manufacture chips so thus Biden's recent verbal threat to China

I worked for Air Products & Chemicals in 1990-1993 as a Engineer and Supervisor in Cryogenics. We manufactured the Cryogenic Tanker Trailers that hauled Hydrogen, Oxygen, Natural Gas and other elements. Back then they already had a working and drive-able hydrogen powered car. Cost per gallon of Hydrogen was peanuts. Issue back then was that the power-train as in transmission was touchy as the torque produced by the hydrogen fuel was extreme.

In 2022 all now works as in trains, trucks and boats. The screamers out there are a bunch of assholes. The world already has the technology to gradually get away from carbon and windmills are a unnecessary joke.

At issue is that we have way too many with "soft" degrees in Washington. They are not pragmatic but bleeding socialists to the core yet when the onion is peeled they are simply out for themselves supported by the costs of others
