The first Russian soldier to gp on trial for war crimes, has pleaded guilty. He is charged with shooting a 62 year old male Ukranian civilian 4 times in the head.

Lets hope that this is just the first of many that are bought to justice.

A 21-year-old Russian soldier has pleaded guilty to killing an unarmed civilian, in the first war crimes trial in Ukraine since the war started. Vadim Shishimarin admitted shooting a 62-year-old man a few days after the invasion began. He faces life in jail.

www.bbc.com...

Remember those ATS members that swore that the killing and murder of civilians by the Russians was fake news ? I do.

Sounds a bit Propaganda ish to me - Why would he plead guilty unless he's been given something in return .

Shishimarin's trial was adjourned shortly after the civilian's widow heard for the first time the Russian soldier admit to the murder. This high profile hearing will restart on Thursday in a larger courtroom.

Ok then.

Admit guilt, judge accepts guilt plea...then restart?

Sounds legit.

That's generally how things work. The plea hearing and the sentencing hearing occur at different times.

So your issue is over the writer's choice of restart over resume?

Just and FYI for everyone, from what I've been able to find, even though he's pled guilty, in an attempt to ensure a fair and unbiased trial, Shishimarin still needs to be convicted unanimously by a panel of three judges. As a result, the trial will still proceed as normal.

Tomorrow, the prosecution is expected to call two witnesses. The first is the deceased's wife who was speaking on the phone with him when he was shot. The second is a soldier that was in the car with Shishimarin.

The defense is going for the classic Nuremburg defense that Shishimarin was just following orders and as a result he is not guilty of a war crime. The prosecution on the other hand is arguing that the person who told Shishimarin to shoot was not his CO and in fact Shishimarin had never met the man before. As a result, he was under no orders to shoot and chose to do so of his own free will.

It should be noted that Shishimarin turned himself in and as a result his lawyer is hoping for some leniency.

One bad person may have done something bad.
He does not represent Russia nor the Russian military as a whole.

Guess what. There are bad people in the American military - but they do not represent the entire military even though the left sure does try and paint the entire military based on the few bad there may be.
That is not how things are done.

Their legal system is not like ours. We also do not know if he actually did plead guilty or was forced or what.

Some of yall are super gullible and willing to believe anything printed online w/out doing due diligence.

Sorry. I still do not think Putin is worse than the Ukrainian regime or worse than the democrats/leftists/progressives in our own country.

No one doubts that Russia can and does and will commit war crimes.

It’s the part about the Ukraine doing the same exact thing that everyone seems to have a hard time swallowing.

Perhaps because russia has the ability to leave Ukraine whenever it wants to avoid being victims?

Ukraine has no such ability after russia invaded their country.

Has Ukraine or the U.S. government invaded anyone to expand their territory?

Does either make regular nuke threats to get their way?

The same happens in the US. You have a trial or admit guilt. Then a recess can be called to allow the judge time to review sentencing guidelines. At the next session the sentence is then given to the accused/convicted officially. It allows for aggravating or mitigating factors to be considered for a punishment.

It's amazing how Ukraine can get a trial started in less than 30 days, but American traitors never see a courtroom.
