For the sake of brevity, the movie is about the murder of members of the Osage nation (Oklahoma) during the 1920's, in order to steal their oil and mineral rights:

Members of the Osage tribe in northeastern Oklahoma are murdered under mysterious circumstances in the 1920s, sparking a major FBI investigation directed by a 29-year-old J. Edgar Hoover and former Texas Ranger Tom White, described by Grann as "an old-style lawman."

Book title: Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann. Doubleday: 2017.

Although most of the Osage nation actually came from Kansas, they mostly opted to peacefully resettle in what was then "Indian territory" (now Oklahoma).

Their chief at the time spoke 5 languages (including Latin), and he deliberately wanted land no whites would ever want.
More significantly he made title deeds for the oil and minerals under their new lands.

So, even when "Indian allotment" came, the Osages still got money for the oil beneath their former lands.

This meant many of the tribe were millionaires, and racist America at the time had to stop this.

So they started making laws making full-blooded Osages wards of the state, who needed white guardians to tell them where to shop!
Er my cousin Vinny's store of course (wink, wink).

But even then, this did not distribute the "Indian loot" fast enough, and the outright murder of tribal members, and even their non-Indian spouses and servants began.

So, that was the scenario.

Just in time for Thanksgiving I hope. That way instead of enjoying food with my family, my liberal brother can discuss how "we're fundamentally evil" as a white family.

Good times ahead!!!

Although in context it's a dark chapter in US history in general.
Perhaps we have much on immigrant experience from various communities in movies.
But Native American cinema depicting that historical period is still a lacuna.

Anyone who has spent the time to read both sides of history with regards to the decimation of Indian tribes understands why the saying, "The white man speaks with forked tongue " is so true.

Surrendered Indians were turned into warriors by the lies and mistreatment's by governments and military commanders. Geronimo is just one example but there were many others who were taught life's lessons by the forked tongue devils.
