Anyone else seeing "out of gas" indicators?

There's a gas station near me where I usually buy most of my gas (and diesel for burning off brush piles). Well, today I had the gas can, almost empty, in the car and was driving by so I decided to get some gas for the tractor. You know, just in case so i wouldn't need to make a special trip.

I pulled up and all of the pumps had regular unleaded 'X'd out as well as midgrade (which is a mixture of premium and regular). They still had premium, as well as no-ethanol regular (which is what I got for the tractor... it's a pre-ethanol (1990) model). The price difference was pretty high compared to regular gas, so it's not surprising that it would sell out last.

They also had diesel.

That surprised me because this particular station has never run out of gas before... it's the go-to place for a pretty large area. Suddenly I started having visions of the late-70s gas lines and rationing gas when one could even find it.

So... is anyone else seeing stations out of regular gas? Or is it just a fluke? I hope it's a fluke... I don't drive much, but I do drive some and I rely on gas machines around here to do pretty much anything since the ticker stopped ticking right.

I think this might be a normal occurrence in some areas in Europe in the near future with the way things are with the sanctions agaisnt Russia and its gas/oil.

The Out of Gas would be problematic.

Didn't see any stations out of gas here, probably passed 20 stations today

Most likely more people than usual buying the cheaper gas first. A lot of cars say that premium is a must but you can run regular in them.

And if it’s a mom and pop or smaller franchise, they may be hurting to get the money together for the same delivery schedule they normally adhered to, as prices increased not only for the transportation of the order to the store, but the price increased for the normal order going into the pumps tank.

I would suggest travel only when you need to.

Maybe it's just the fuel driver was sick and never showed up? Did you inquire about it to the attendant? If so what did they say?

This is around the time where refineries do their seasonal "turnarounds", i.e. scheduled intensive maintenance.

But that usually just (just?) adds to the higher spring prices, and doesn't cause shortages.

Northern California here.

The Costco I usually go to for gas is stocked, and the price appears to have dropped about 10 cents per gallon since I filled up two weeks ago.

It's a Citgo, and a pretty big one with a lot of business (except for today of course). I doubt they can't get the money for a gas delivery.

I almost never go inside so no, I didn't ask. The prices for drinks, snacks, or whatnot are ridiculous.

My MO is I pull up, pump what I need, get a receipt, and go on.

That's the best explanation I have heard yet. Maybe the refinery was running behind?

I filled up this morning without any problems. The several gas stations I stopped at to grab coffee on the way to Portland had the usual number of cars filling up.  I only went to Portland because my dog needed to see his specialist vet. And yes, it still looked like a third world country with all of the homeless camping out on the streets and sidewalks. Luckily for me, the vet hospital has a fenced in parking lot with goons to keep the place secure.

I just filled up my tank a couple of days ago at my usual gas station. I got regular 89 octane unleaded. There was plenty of gas, and all the pumps were full.

We had a gas shortage here, not to long back.
An like your gas station, ours was out of regular and mid.

But what shocked me was they were selling their premium for the price of regular.
I guess they had a surplus or was given the go ahead by head office or something.

I live in the armpit of the north. Lol
No one buys premium up here. So maybe it was their surplus, who knows.
But they sold their premium at regular price.
So that a bonus

Gas shortages are regional - each state has different blend requirements so they can't easily shift supply. There is also a change over around this time from summer to winter blends.

We don't buy regular corn gas, haven't for many years. We buy either the ethanol free regular or premium. The ethanol free regular is thirty cents a gallon more than the regular corn gas and the premium ethanol free gas is another thirty cents more from the regular ethanol free. We get about three miles to a gallon more mileage to a gallon of the ethanol free gas, but not much extra from the premium ethanol free over the regular ethanol free.

The 2020 subaru seems to have more snot with the ethanol free gas for a little four banger. Most of my lawnmowers and tillers and chainsaws run lots better on the premium, as does my eighty six plow truck.

With the cost of gas, reg and mid are the first to go. Someone may have dropped the ball in ordering. It's a day to day thing ordering and they sometimes wait knowing purchase price might drop if they order a day or two later. Just thinking that's probably what happened or truck could've been running behind. I was in the business for many years and it's a juggling act.

May your ticker keep on ticking for many years to come.

Your posts always have a certain quality reminiscent of the old days on ATS, when people like myself refrained from muddying the water with our dirty feet because we were in awe of the magnificence we happened to stumble upon.
