No they were killing their own people...well technically after the referendums they were killing citizens from separatist regions.

So people trying to illegally steal land from Ukraine on behalf of russia.

Exactly as I said.

You think dombas and Crimea are not Ukrainian soil?

Is that what passes for 'evidence' of something in your delusional reality?

How far the once mighty russian propaganda machine has fallen is simply astounding.

Not after they held a referendum to separate from Ukraine's new nationalist government...

I understand Ukraine may not seen it that way but I assure you the people who live there and voted to separate so not see it as Ukraine anymore...and that's what matters most...the ones who live there don't want to be a part of the new Ukraine.

An illegal election called by foreign operatives has no ability to change national borders, only Ukraine can hold legal elections in Ukraine.

dombas and Crimea remain Ukrainian territory, except in the deranged opinions of russia and it's supporters.

No, it is just something funny. Probably a "foreign" concept for some.

Thats a very misinformed opinion...I guess we will see what the borders look like when the dust settles... Will the voice of the people be heard or will their wish for independence be trampled by the nationalists who outlawed their majority language and sent nazi thugs to intimidate and kill them.

Also if you are of that opinion then you should be of the opinion the coup was illegal and therefore so is the current government.
edit on 16-4-2022 by RickyD because: (no reason given)

Does 'misinformed' = violate russian narrative?

Then yes.

Only Ukraine can hold legal elections inside Ukraine.

The coup was obviously illegal, and so was the 'election' that the coup corrected.

Neither of those events give russia any justification for invading Ukraine to steal land.

Twice.

The irony is Russia caused the coup. When they helped Yankovic flee in the middle of the night to Russia with millions he stole. Left Ukraine no choice but to declare him missing and replace him.

Funniest part is and he stayed turned out there wasn't enough votes to remove him. He'd still be in office. But I don't think that was in the best interests of Russia at the time or they would not have allowed him to run.

Based on his troop deployments, Putin has no intention of holding Ukraine.

Maybe that's the case now, but I'm not sure that was the limit of his intentions at the outset of this invasion.

He seems to want to annex several key areas which have a pro-Moscow ethnic Russian majority,.....

That's a bit of popular misconception.
In both Luhansk and Donetsk Oblast's ethnic Russian's are a very large MINORITY comprising around 38-39% of the population.
Ethnic Ukrainians are still the largest ethnic group.

And not all the Russians support Putin or wish to become part of some new Greater Russian Empire.

....and then to force the Ukrainian government to sue for peace under an unequal treaty that would let him rule the annexed territory, while the rest of Ukraine was a self governing demilitarized state.

That's certainly a possibility.
It'd be a bit of a face saver for Putin.

In short, he doesn't want Ukraine, only parts of it.

Personally I think deep down Putin has his eyes on Ukraine and more....the realities of achieving that may prove a little harder than he first thought.

Putin wants to restore the old Soviet Borders including East-Berlin.

and this is why Putin will fail. He is stuck in the 1980's mindset. For some reason he cannot bring himself to accept the fact the USSR collapsed and Russia is not a superpower, or respected as such, anymore. The daily threats to their neighbors and the neighbors reactions is telling.

The problem is Putin is a victim of its own propaganda.
