Ukraine Still Has Most of its Air Force Intact - Why Does President Zelenskyy Want More Aircraft?

When the MSNBC Pentagon correspondent announced this today, it blew me away. It appears Ukraine President Zelenskyy wants everyone else to commit and sacrifice planes, but he's not willing to commit his Airforce to fighting Russians.

WASHINGTON, March 4 (Reuters) - Ukraine still has a "significant majority" of its military aircraft available nine days after Russian forces started their invasion of the country, a U.S. defense official said on Friday.

Vastly outmatched by Russia's military, in terms of raw numbers and firepower, the fact that Ukraine's own air force is still flying and its air defenses are still deemed to be viable has surprised military experts.

"The Ukrainians still have a significant majority of their air combat power available to them, both fixed-wing and rotary wing as well as unmanned systems and surface-to-air systems," said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

After the opening salvos of the war on Feb. 24, analysts expected the Russian military to try to immediately destroy Ukraine's air force and air defenses.

Is it possible that Ukraine is fighting in the air, but Russian fighter jets, and ground-to-air missiles are missing the superbly talented Ukraine pilots?

Why does Zelensky want more jets if he still has most of his in tact?

Maybe there are more pilots than there are jets and helicopters available?

Why hasn't the vastly superior Russian military, destroyed Ukraine's Air Force? That should have been an easy deed. Even if they are on the ground, the planes could be destroyed. (Like Japan did at Pearl Harbor)

Because getting new aircraft from anyone takes time, and all it takes is one bad day to lose a decent chunk of your airpower. You don’t wait for that to happen before you start looking for replacements.

My guess is since his country is being invaded, he's trying to fight back? Just speculation on my part.

Ukraine wants Aircraft ---- give them enough Drones to Swarm-Damage russian aircraft and artillery batteries that are pounding civilian targets

10k Drones need 1/10th the infrastructure requirements to service a mere dozen F-35 or whatever

the 'David-v-Goliath' meme applies here...---> Swarm - Damaged i accidently 'coined a phrase' i think ?
anyone use that term before now ?

That makes sense. Still waiting to learn why Russia hasn't demolished most of what Ukraine has already.

There"s also this:

"This war will be a total failure, FSB whistleblower says"

"Spies in Russia’s infamous security apparatus were kept in the dark about President Putin’s plan to invade Ukraine, according to a whistleblower who described the war as a “total failure” that could be compared only to the collapse of Nazi Germany.

A report thought to be by an analyst in the FSB, the successor agency to the KGB, said that the Russian dead could already number 10,000. The Russian defence ministry has acknowledged the deaths of only 498 of its soldiers in Ukraine."

Maybe Putin's little adventure wasn't planned worth a damn.

That would mean Russia's military fighters and ground-to-air shooters are not as good as military people and the MSM portray them to be.

If NATO and US gets active involved in the fight, the focus will quickly shift to the new threats that threaten Russia much more then Ukraine does. Perhaps a bit hard to say he is throwing everyone else under the Russian bus, but that is basically what he is trying to do now. Perhaps he should research global nuclear war more, perhaps he would stop asking.

For longer than you have been alive, America's number one political enemy state has been the USSR.

Putin's stated goal, of which the Ukrainian invasion is part, is to re-establish the USSR as a power in the world.

... and here you are, seemingly supporting their case? Hmmm...

Yeah.

Like Ukraine can enforce a no fly zone on its own.

This has been pointed out to you before.

At this point, I will just ignore your crap.

Who are you, and what have you done with Carewemust?

The 10,000 dead Russians must have had a damping effect on Russia's military and on Putin himself.

And everyone thought he was a blood-thirsty crazy man who would lash out with mega-bombs in anger.

If asking why Ukraine officials appear to be saving equipment, while asking others to sacrifice theirs, is supporting Putin, then so be it.

It's a logical question based on what the Pentagon says, and my own non-military mind.

If questions of that nature offend you, take it up with your creator.

What an excellent question!!

Ukraine Still Has Most of its Air Force Intact - Why Does President Zelenskyy Want More Aircraft?

The reason is, because he also needs professional pilots to man those birds.

Zelensky is no fool. He's baiting NATO into a fight with Russia. Zelensky's deader-than-a-door-nail for putting his country on a war-footing -vs- Russia ... instead of simply capitulating and fading into the woodwork. The only chance Zelensky has now is if Russia expands its fronts into other countries.

The Biden administration is trying to goad Poland down that path. Will have to see what happens. If Putin does Poland, I'd imagine he'll roll-up the Baltic States without blinking an eye.

Remember: Putin doesn't much have to watch his back. For him, it's a simple push forward, make sure there's not enough left in your wake to re-group, re-consolidate your troops at the new front lines ... and push again.

If you lost 9,000 soldiers to Ukraine "Freedom Fighters", wouldn't you do more to kill Ukrainians?

The United Nations says as of this morning, there are fewer than 407 civilian deaths in Ukraine. (Source: thehill.com... )

Either Vladimir Putin is telling his soldiers to not retaliate, or his soldiers do not want to retaliate, or Ukraine has not killed 9,000 Russian soldiers.

Which is it do you think?
