I love your post about planting. We had great weather 90+ so full steam ahead with planting and then just imagine a foot of snow. Lots of damage and broken branches but hopefully I protected the valuables well enough. I kept some inside for back up just in case.
We are seeing so many shortages that I expanded my garden this year. I went to the market and it was just amazing to see the only veggies offered were corn, potatoes and carrots. Anything fresh is swooped up as soon as it is delivered and the prices are just unreal.
Gardening here is tough at the best of times but nothing beats the taste.

Watch the water> California is about to begin dismantling 4 dams under the Kalamath Reclamation Project to help replenish the salmon population.
These dams were set up to store water during periods of drought, use for agriculture and regulate the flow.

Just thinking out loud but by removing this won't it impact agricultural production right at the very moment that we are facing food shortages. I would consider that a "Big" event.

Anyone from Cali have any thoughts on the impact of this?

Interestingly, Stephenson also oversaw the running of ‘Camp X’, located at Oshawa, by Lake Ontario, near Toronto. This was a camp which carried out top-secret training of British and other Allied wartime agents, especially in the skills of sabotage and assassination, using a range of lethal Q-style gadgets. Moreover, after the USA officially entered the War in late 1941, some of the agents of the ‘Office of Strategic Services’ (OSS), which was the wartime forerunner of what subsequently became the ‘Central Intelligence Agency’ (CIA), received training at Camp X, something that Fleming was very aware of.

Coincidentally, two future British screenwriters on the EON Bond film franchise received their wartime training at Camp X: Paul Dehn, who worked for the Special Operations Executive (SOE), and Roald Dahl (who worked for BSC and was a close colleague of Fleming). Dehn, of course, worked on the screenplay for Goldfinger (1964), and Dahl developed the screen treatment for You Only Live Twice (1967).

British Security Coordination - A Compendium - The Book and The Lords By Virginia McClaughry.

I recently obtained a rather obscure and little known book that was written under the watchful eye of the head of the BSC himself – William Stephenson. The title of the book is:

BRITISH SECURITY COORDINATION, The Secret History of British Intelligence in the Americas, 1940- 1945, first published in Great Britain by St. Ermin’s Press – 1998.

British Security Co-ordination (BSC) was a covert organization set up in New York City by the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) in May 1940 upon the authorization of the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill.

A decade before the world ever heard of “A Man Called Intrepid,” William Stephenson invited a young, chestnut haired college student to join him for an afternoon of sailing on Florida’s Biscayne Bay. Stephenson was introduced to that young man only as “Mr. X.”

Stephenson's initial directives for the BSC were to:

1. investigate enemy activities;
2. institute security measures against sabotage to British property; and
3. organize American public opinion in favour of aid to Britain.

Stephenson was soon a close adviser to FDR, and suggested that he put Stephenson's good friend William J. "WildBill" Donovan in charge of all U.S. intelligence services. Donovan founded the U.S. Office of Strategic Services (OSS), which in 1947 became the CIA.

Not least of Stephenson's contributions to the war effort was the setting up by BSC of Camp X, the unofficial name of the secret Special Training School (STS) No. 103, aka "S 25-1-1" & "Project-J" - a WWII paramilitary installation for training covert agents in the methods required for clandestine operations.


Reports indicate that Camp X graduates worked as secret agents, security personnel, intelligence officers, or psychological warfare experts, serving in clandestine operations. Many were captured, tortured, and executed; survivors received no recognition for their efforts.


Camp X graduates operated in Europe (Spain, Portugal, Italy and the Balkans) as well as in Africa, Australia, India and the Pacific theater.

Whitby Ontario was the location of Camp X, established by Sir William Stephenson, the "Man Called Intrepid." Although the buildings have since been demolished, a monument was unveiled on the site of Camp X in 1984 by Ontario's Lieutenant Governor John Black Aird.

British novelist and Children's book writer Roald Dahl and British screenwriter Paul Dehn (Goldfinger, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, Planet of the Apes) also trained at the camp. The irregulars: Roald Dahl and the British Spy Ring in Wartime Washington (2009) by Jennet Conant.

Camp X has been featured in movies and television programs, including the CBC series of X Company, three seasons, 2015-2017, and the History Channel's docu Camp X: Secret Agent School, July 2014, by Toronto's Yap Films. The latter included recreations of scenes and featured interviews with actual individuals who had been associated with the camp.

I'm glad Francis isn't sticking his nose into this. He's way too political as it is.

I wish other (arch)bishops would be willing to take a stand like this. The Catholic Church, plain & simple, considers abortion to be a form of homicide. And while there are situations in which homicide can be justified (eg, self-defense), in almost every case it is simply murder.

So, any Catholic who promotes abortion is not in communion with the Church, and should be denied communion.
