Happens to me half the time, the star eventually shows up, in my experience.

Maybe just don't use them. Maybe ATS would be better of without them.
Maybe it's just a simple voting process. Is that why we are here, just to check our little box and move along?
Maybe if we appreciate the thoughts of another member we could reply and point out what is is about what they had to say that brought our admiration to a sizzle rather than just clicking a little box.

When you give a star, sometimes you have to refresh the page to see that it actually registered.

sometimes people put a lot of work into well crafted posts and deserve some sort of recognition and a small star is the most we can give

and hate it or love it it is kind of a status symbol for some people, i use it for a gauge of how the community takes a member.

if you have 1000 posts and 3 stars and no flags they are more than likely not a good poster

Its never worked for me either. I try a lot but nothing happens so I just post a reply when I read something good. Be nice if I could figure it out. Safe me some typing.

i found if i scroll the post down a bit, it helps also i wait til the little sign that says star this post comes up,, works too.

for me also, i have been able to star a post more than one time on occasion.

not sure what circumstances make it possible, tho.

Yes, sometimes people put a lot of work into well crafted posts. But do they really deserve some sort of recognition? I would suggest that some of the most starred threads are nothing more than partisan pieces of crap that deserve no recognition at all, hence any collection of stars that a post might receive is completely watered down by the cheapness that so many are handed out with.

As I suggested, it is not the most we can give. What is the most we can give is well thought out replies that challenge the author of the post to even greater thought by engaging in a good discussion.

For a poster to get only three stars out of 1000 post may or may not be an indication of the '''value ''of any post, it might just be an indication of group follow-ship. But if that is the reason that we visit this side, then go for it because as you say, it is what it is while I say it is what we as individuals ''think'' it is.

To the ''status'' that you suggest, that too is questionable. Are we here seeking status or are we here to increase our understanding of what is going on around us. Trusting an anonymous system of status based on any grouping of likely biased on a smattering of unknown people seems to me not to be the best manner in which to do that.

That's an illusion.

Star a post once, and refresh the page, and the star is still there on the refreshed page.

Star a post again (which I can always do), then refresh the page, and the second star is not there in the refreshed page.

So what you see displayed is not necessarily what is permanently being recorded in the ATS database. It's probably something like it checks to see if you've already starred the post, and if so, any additional stars you attempt to add are rejected even if they may be temporarily displayed until the page is refreshed.

This doesn't necessarily apply to mods. I think they can award 2 stars (persistent even after the page is refreshed), and the site owners could award even more than that.

However given how many people now have false numbers of millions of stars, the stars system is more or less broken. They didn't really get those millions of stars, it's some kind of error glitch.

I think you make some great points!

If you have a VPN enabled turn it off.

That's was the issue for me anyroad where issuing stars was concerned.

As a rule, the only ones promoting that system are the unpopular ones trying to blend in and hideπŸ˜ƒ
