They won't step in, they are far too weak.

NATO, ISAF etc have always been 90%+ on the backs of Americans. A few nations do step up, but the vast majority are just there on paper.

Here's what I think. Putin is crazy like a fox. Don't underestimate him.

Something seems off in the fighting.

It's only off because we are all surprised that Russia's military is a paper tiger.

They have poorly maintained equipment, probably due to corruption and lack of funding. They have a poor doctrine, poor training and low morale. Furthermore, they have crap logistics and supply. Their politicians suffer from groupthink. Their leader is a fantasist.

This may give insights as to why the mighty Russian air force is actually a banana.

Royal United Services Institute

More than a week into the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Air Force has yet to commence large-scale operations. Inactivity in the first few days could be ascribed to various factors, but the continued absence of major air operations now raises serious capability questions.

One thing is for sure, Russia would be torn to shreds in a conventional war with NATO.

I weep for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia. Both countries would be exponentially better-off if they could join the EU.

Russia says this is to liberate the Ukrainian people. Destroying cities and killing civilians kind of destroys their argument. Russian people are already against this war as it is.

The state spin machine is in full operation and they are showing the zombified public images of fluffy kittens and rainbows.

How many Russians are against this war? Probably a small minority.

Ukraine encouraged/compelled civilians to take up arms and fight as a civilian militia, which means Russia is forced to fight civilians in residential areas , which was never in the plan.

Russia has no lack of firepower. If Russia had a scorched earth policy, they could demolish all opposition.

What has slowed the Russian advance is an unwillingness to cause massive civilian casualties.

That is why Russia has decided to hunker down east of the Dnieper River so they can nuke NATO armies advancing across western Ukraine. Russia has decided to let NATO come to them where Russian missiles can obliterate NATO on Russia's own terms.

Russia is consolidating itself in territory in the East taken from Russia in 1918 by the Germans and never part of Ukraine proper

Russia wants all of Eurasia. It's been expanding for some time. Ukraine is the line in the sand that the rest of Europe has drawn. The US only got involved when it looked bad for staying out of a holocaust type situation. I mean this literally in the Greek sense of the word holocaust, but also see the strong WW2 parallel to this event. Both sides have done wrong, both sides have neo-nazis, and both sides have good people. Claiming a nation run by a Jewish man is a Nazi country is stupid. Putin is the agressor here and should be stopped. As much as the US loves war, here you go!
