Is this the idea of a free democratic society that NATO/EU are pushing in Ukraine?

There are some opposition parties in Ukraine that are still opposed to NATO/EU is this their idea of democratic society? by arresting opposition polticans and leaders claiming that they would be charged with treason?

There should be only one political party in Ukraine and other countries that are Pro EU,Pro NATO?

How about we wait and see the evidence they have against him before passing judgement. He is under house arrest; not in prison and not dead. Given the circumstances, I'd be rounding up Russian sympathizers too.

If I may put forth a slice of personal conjecture :
What if Viktor Medvedchuk tipped the Russian government to something he had found out in the Ukranian government .
What if that knowledge is why the Russians escalated so quick.

Am I speculating too much ?

Was that before or after Russia had massed troops on the border?

There wasn't much Zelensky could do to irritate Putin, except something as benign as the house arrest of Putin's ally? Considering all the civil rights violations going on isn't this really a minor infraction if it's an infraction at all it could be true

Ive said it before and I'll stay ot again here...this wouldn't be happening if the US didn't try to install their own puppets there. We would not allow russia to install puppets on mexico if the mexicans ousted their corrupt cartel puppet leaders would we?

To make it all worse we went in and supported people who we are now leaving to face the russians alone. Once again showing allies how far our trust goes...

And for all of the political games played the ones who suffer are innocent people...thats what should be learned here.

I like this theory. Would be interesting if something came out after all of this.

Putin wants Ukraine and the Baltic States regardless, but would be interesting if a pro RU sympathizer in the Ukraine government informed Viktor and he told his Russian handlers. So giving the invasion some momentum.

A call saying Ukraine is about to join NATO would’ve definitely seen the invasion full steam ahead. Though I’ll die on the hill that Ukraine should be able to choose it’s own alliances and pacts.

Both the West and Russia seem to forget about security promises made. Should’ve kept a nuke or two for deterrence in my opinion. No one ever sticks to their word.

He’s probably the guy the Russians intended to install as their puppet after they kill Zelenskyy. The Ukrainians were probably tipped off by US intelligence after intercepting communications.

House arrest is way better than the public assassinations that Putin orders in Russia for opposition leaders.

I think 1947boomer may have the right of it. A week ago was about the same time reports came out that Russia was planning to execute political leaders and install their own politicians.

Previous to Putin's invasion I agreed with you, but he overstepped by not just pounding the disputed areas and backing off, he instead he had to hit Kyiv, and obviously his 150,000 troops weren't all prepared to fight their Ukrainian brothers with the same zeal as the Ukrainians are dishing back

House arrest is better then the Russian treatment : Polonium or Novichok.

Or getting stabbed with a Umbrella containing a micro canister that as soon as the wax melts starts leaking poison into your system.

Where is the fair trail in that ?

I don't understand why your are attacking our standards when it is safe to say the side you are defending got none.

I don't live in the US neither so the counterargument with the Drone programs towards me will not hold water.

Given the current situation is it any surprise he has been put under house arrest bearing in mind his closeness to the man who started this war.

Meanwhile Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny remains under lock and key in his prison cell facing a 15 year sentence.
