Trudeau has REVOKED the Emergencies Act due to significant legal and political backlash! Conservative MP Raquel Dancho explains how Trudeau strong-armed his party into voting for it by making it a 'confidence vote'. I have to wonder if enough Canadians withdrew funs or closed their bank accounts that the banks went to Trudeau and applied pressure.

An Okanagan politician is welcoming Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision on Wednesday afternoon to end the recently-invoked Emergencies Act.

The legislation, invoked on Feb. 14 and passed by parliament on Feb. 21, was in response to protest blockades in Ottawa and at select border crossings.

Trudeau’s decision to trigger the never-used-before Act triggered division across the nation, with vigorous support on both sides of the issue.

But on Wednesday, the Prime Minister cancelled the Act, stating, “we’re ready to confirm that the situation is no longer an emergency.”

In Monday’s vote, 185 MPs voted for the Act, with 151 voting against it. The Liberals and NDP voted for the motion, with the Conservatives and Bloc Quebecois voting no.

In an interview with Global News, Central Okanagan-Similkameen-Nicola MP Dan Albas supported Trudeau’s decision to revoke the Act.

“I’m happy to see the Prime Minister realize that there is no justification for continuing to have the Emergencies Act in place,” said Albas.

“The order that they did was a public emergency, and the Act is very clear that it has a very high threshold when it’s invoked. And clearly, it is no longer necessary and should be removed.”

And he should go. There should be no welcoming this decision other than with anger and rage that it was ever invoked in the first place.

For him to stay now would demonstrate Canadian politics has no democracy, only rule by fascist decree rule.

Figured that would happen. The whole world is watching and he looks like a dictator. Other Countries are by your side my Canadian friends.

Will they un-freeze all the frozen bank accounts?

That was one of the more worrisome features of these emergency powers. That should NEVER have happened as a part of this response.

Yeah it may have been so sudden and overblown for Canadians that there was a significant backlash. It was pretty horrendous and inexcusable. He still needs to resign due to his significant betrayal of Canadians.

You were right Night! I saw it as the end of my country. It should never have happened in Canada.

I guess so. Without this act in place, they need the proper judicial permission to seize a person's bank account.

I will always believe it was the trucker's movement and the number of citizens that backed them up. Seizing bank accounts and strong-arming such a peaceful crowd, while fining any business/person caught helping protestors was dirty, by human standards. Breaking shop windows of store owners who stayed open looked like nothing less than childish bullying.

I'd bet money on some sort of poll to gage public sentiment, and Trudeau came in at minus numbers in the 100's.

The people still DO have some power!!!

Politics commentator Black Conservative Patriot theorizes this was a stress test to see how far Trudeau could push this authority, and now he knows he can assert it again on a whim.

We do indeed. And we've allowed him great power as our 'representative'. Not sure how this ends.

Yes.

RCMP working to ‘unfreeze’ protesters’ bank accounts, Ottawa says

Of cousre, for some, what little trust remained in banks may be gone for a very long time.

Completely 1000% agree.

So now after walking back such a gianormous political miscalculation (Emergency Powers never heretofore used) that may or may not have nudged an already jumpy public into volatile activity in banking (maybe a bit premature to call it a bank run), what are the consequences?

Is there a Canadian equivalent to impeachment?

Good leaders relax nerves, spread calm and generally allay fears of the public.

Trudeau has pretty much done EXACTLY the OPPOSITE for like a month now, more maybe?

- No negotiating with truckers when doing this early could've maybe defused the whole thing
- He couldn't negotiate because the minute it started HE BOLTED
- Called them nasty names, terrorists and white supremacists, which no evidence of such
- Then as the issue intensified, he just kept ratcheting up the pressure
- Culminates in an ugly and uncalled for stomping out of peaceful protests
- After all of this lack of leadership, he makes a power play for emergency authorization of MORE power
- This basically seems to have been a potential tipping point to economic panic, i.e. banking volatility

Is that more or less an accurate, succinct sequence of events?

At any point in steps 1-6 if this guy shows one ounce of empathy, compassion (these people are asking not to be forced legally into chemical injections?!), sign of compromise or even after it all contrition, we're not anywhere near this point right now.

How can this man be entrusted with leading a nation, after such a demonstrable string of horrid decision making and awful imaging.

A highly preventable social crisis came about, and instead of applying the emergency breaks, this guy CUT the break lines and steered away from the runaway truck ramp.

Your moment of truth surfaced Trudeau, and you were found WANTING, and not by a little bit.
