I agree. It’s unfair to everyone to simply tell the parents not to have had the children because they didn’t meet an economic threshold. Considering how much bloat goes into a typical school budget (just look at the admins and school boards salary) providing meals to those who need it shouldn’t be a question to anyone.

I could get on-board with this stoopidity, if some said, "This ... and nothing more ever again. We will never ever ever ever ever increase the budget ... unless we get rid of all FREE stuff."

Don't ask me to hold my breath for it. Maybe they need to cut the salaries of those admins and school boards.

You seem to be of the “let the children starve because your taxes shouldn’t be used to help others” Mentality.

Ideas like yours seem quite stupid when you consider how many other places money goes that doesn’t help people.

This is a huge issue our state. To keep the free lunches or not.

When the pandemic hit, the schools went to free lunches and a breakfast and I believe a snack for some.

I have always been of the mind that if you don't have the means to supoort your children don't have them.
I am also very soft hearted when it comes to kids. In the overall scheme of things, I would rather my tax money go
toward this then many other fiscially irresponsible costs.

Then I go back because I know this is the start to who really "owns" your children. It's a slippery slope!
First school lunches, and testing, and vaccines, and then it will be that you don't have the authority to make decisions for your children.
I think we are right at the crux with this right now.

Is this just our state or is anyone else dealing with this?
you just have to understand problem/reaction/solution then you wilL have the answer.

Au contraire mon frère. I've made decisions which put me where I am in this life. Could've been worse ... could've been much better. Difference is, I've never put my hand out to beg for myself or my kids. FWIW: Had I made better decisions (especially the early ones) I would likely be a better class of person and measure up to your standards.

I tend to forget about adoption because my real life experience with that is horrible. My half sister was put up for adoption and her stories about her time there and the 3 different times she was adopted are the stuff of nightmares.

Might as well add adoption to the bad parents option. At least from my view.

So much money is wasted on nonsense that doesn’t benefit the kids directly, if I were Queen of the World, schools would have healthy salad bars, with soups, pasta, etc. that any kid can eat from included in the school budget. Perhaps they could charge for certain entree’s, but every kid can get a healthy meal from the salad bar.

That's option C. state takes care of child. Because school lunches are payed for by the state through taxes. It's socialism.

Now that I think of it adoption can fall under both option B and C.

So in reverse it is OK to have children even if you CAN’T feed them because everyone should be responsible?

At least I'm honest.

How much of your free time and money do you give to help the strangers of children?

And I mean free time not time your being payed for.

The conversation is that there are a whole lot of people that shouldn’t have kids. Somehow we just can’t talk about it. We don’t talk about it.

Because this fix is terrible. Regulating who is allowed to give birth.

If we look at human trafficking. Rarely are children from stable homes kidnapped and trafficked.

When I was a homeless 16 year old 90% of all the other homeless people around me were kids. The homeless issue is way way more #ed up than people realize.

I don’t do much now, but in my lifetime I have donated so much time you wouldn’t believe it.
Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, united way, Red Cross, Boys and girls club, YMCA, All levels of schools. I was the mom that went into the class to read and give treats. So I can confidently say that I gave a lot of uncompensated time, and on top of that I have given tons of money to causes I believe in.

PS. I also took in a homeless child, I also volunteered for children with AIDS.

Ronal Reagan tried to correct this by stopping lifetime Welfare. He put in a five year limit, with programs to help educate people so they could transition off of the government's 'free ride for life' program.

I had no idea that reagan made it that way. It should have stayed that way.

Psychiatry got involved with all kinds of new disabling diagnosis for personality disorders.

I can give a real life example. My mother who has dwarfism got on disability for her anxiety not the dwarfism. It was all done by phone conversations. The person working the case didn't even know that she had dwarfism. When I found out I made my mother tell them because I thought that she would get better benefits. Dwarfism as I'm sure everyone is aware is a super hard condition to live with. But no, she would get the same amount of help for anxiety as she would for a debilitating physical impairment.

Imagine if the government gave everyone the same amount and kind of food, how would you feel about that…?

I think our taxes should go to cards like the food stamp card. One for food, one for housing , one for healthcare. Cards made so that you couldn't spend them on anything but those products. You can't use a food stamp card to buy alcohol for example.

This would solve the hunger and housing and health problems. IMO.

How do we pay for it. Less spending on BS not higher taxes. Remember guys I'm a fiscal conservative. We need much less spending in government across the board. Wiser spending. This country is rich we can afford to feed and house each other. We just need to spend less on wasteful bs.

I'll let all of you decide what's wasteful. But I hope that none of you would call feeding and housing humans as wasteful.

No it doesn’t that’s why were are where we are.

People sell those cards and the kids are still hungry.

I am not advocating government help, I am saying if my taxes go to the schools at least they can feed the children better than what Micheal Obama was trying to do.. There is a difference in what I am paying for out of getting raped in taxes to what my taxes could be going to.. That is all, If I am paying for it like I am they should be eating decent. oh and free cuz that is a lot of money to schools from taxes.

The allotted amount is probably more per child than anywhere in the free world.

And all that money goes to teachers unions, school boards, and superintendents salaries.

If it went to the kids, they'd be eating gourmet food 24/7.
