Seems that everything middle is going away.

Middle class, Middle manager, Middle political views.
These are times of polar opposites. I sometimes feel we are headed toward
a hunger games situation.

www.yahoo.com...

“People don’t want to be managers anymore,”
Additionally, Humu found, hybrid work isn’t cutting it. Seven in 10 hybrid employees said they felt disconnected from their coworkers, and two in three felt left out when they’re not working in the office,

I laughed and laughed at this. I know they meant it one way, but I interpreted it another.
Middle manager are often power hungry micro managers. The lie that workers needed constant "management" was obliterated during the
pandemic and work from home. Some got more work done. There really isn't a need for managers in a lot of places. Of course
they don't want to be managers now that their work is being looked at and nobody to boss around! ha

Back to the topic. For those that follow astrology we are in the age of Aquarius, it governs opposite aspects. Again, no room for middleness.

I truly believe there will be more big changes that force those lagging in the middle to choose a side... Right or left, up or down, here or there.
Bye Bye Middle.

Our company gave out appreciable increases to all managers since a lot of people were moving/getting poached. Not that I don't speak to recruiters anyway but it certainly was nice news.

Sounds like your company is being proactive.
This is from the article, how crazy!

Between March and September of last year, 36% of employees quit their jobs without a new one lined up, which may be managers’ biggest challenge of all.

I don't know anyone who left here in North American at the mid/senior management level that didn't already have something lined up. The company saw how this was impacting morale, training and retention and gave out way more than the normal 3% merit increase. I personally gave some of my team $10k+ increases so we didn't lose them too.

3% merit increase

Just had this discussion the other day. 3% is laughable. That is actually a pay cut with inflation.

Not surprising. It's been a punishing slog for those who didn't yet graduate from middle management to a rewarding office career because it means they are stuck as the halter tying the horses to the wagon. No one wants to be pulled in two directions like that more than a couple years before they've earned their company vehicle and desk, some have been doing it for a decade or longer.

Regarding the need for managers, I say it just depends on the manager. My manager is great and strives to clear roadblocks for my projects and budgeting issues. He also coordinates with the executives for any company related communication. Pay has been the big topic where I work and I’ve already seen a 10% pay increase as well as a promised raise when I get to my 2 year point in June. Managers haven’t been an issue, but developers have been hard to retain lately for us.

We're in sales, we make commission and bonuses, that's just gravy.

That's pretty cool, where do I send my resume dammit? I told you I'd be your chauffer/your assistant whatever LOL.

I know every sector is different. Management in my experience is basically there for a buffer between ownership and the plebes. Most have no real authority, even minor issues have to be run by the top 2-3 guys, and by the time they make a decision, you lost so much time waiting for the decision, it's better to proceed without even asking.

Not to mention most managers get recycled through multiple companies, a bad manager and absentee owner can literally ruin a company or brand in a couple of years, if not a couple of seasons.

The managers that do well build relationships with other employees and retailers and when they move on they poach as many as they can for their new companies.
