Today Julian Assange has won the first stage of his right to appeal his case against extradition at the Supreme Court , it is now up to the Supreme Court if they will hear the case.

On Monday, two senior judges ruled there was a point of law, but denied him permission for the appeal.

However, Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett, sitting with Lord Justice Holroyde, said Assange could go to the Supreme Court itself and ask to bring the appeal.

"Whether or not the issue needs ventilation in that court is a matter appropriately for its decision," Lord Burnett said.

Lord Burnett asked the Supreme Court to "take steps to expedite consideration" of any application for an appeal.

Assange's lawyers now have 14 days to make the application to the Supreme Court.

Julian Assange should be moved from Belmarsh high security prison and placed in more suitable detention now , his continued detention in Belmarsh is a National disgrace that needs to be ended , we criticise others for holding political prisoners while we ourselves do the same ... not a good look.

This is very good news.

For one, extradition isn't supposed to be used for political crimes. Another, there's no way he would receive anything close to a fair trial, with any semblance of rights.

It's a dangerous precedence being set, and we all need to nip it in the bud now.

IMO his refusal to face the US moloch is idiotic. He looks like an old dying hermit.
He's a prisoner for how many years now? It feels like a decade

Well, it's game over when he gets here. So that's why he's been avoiding it.

I'd you get charged under the espionage act, your court process is completely different. It's very secretive, and your lawyer is hamstrung. You don't have the same rights to discovery, and even more damning you can't say what your intent was, which is one of the core tenants of our legal system.

Amazing.
You and I agree yet again .

Julian Assange should be moved from Belmarsh high security prison and placed in more suitable

standards such as a place where he can live out his life free of the burden of oppression .

From a REAL US citizen .

Isn't this just how McAfee wound up dead in his cell, in a third world prison, with little to no news coverage?

Snowden will be next. Anyone willing to stand up to the real monsters in this world will be silenced, even if it means shuffling them around in various prisons until you find one willing to take the correct bribes.

RIP Assange.

Reportedly, the Muslim guys are watching out for him. They completely understand the concept of a freedom fighter, and extend courtesies to such people. That part I know first-hand.

Gotta love all the faux liberals and "activists" who supported people like Assange for a while then decided that he's an evil right wing threat working for the Russians once he released dirt on the Clintons, LOL. Most of the SAME people celebrated "anonymous leaks and whistleblowers" during the Trump administration, and claimed that any attacks on the press or whistleblowers was "attacks on the free press and abuse of power." Mysteriously, they still don't support Assange. However could that be?
