This at least in my mind confirms that Russia has every intention to invade Ukraine. The time and the place that they have chosen for these exercises make me side-eye their intentions.

Russian ships parked off Ireland

I expect communication with our American and European friends to be disrupted around invasion 'Go' time.

Just more sabre-rattling with Russia letting us know they can hit us with ship launched cruise missiles as well as ICBM should it all go breasts up.

Our subs, E-3D Sentry's and satellites will have them well covered.

Yeah, that bit was odd. Why Ireland? They could have chosen other locales that would have been more to the point they want to make.

Cheers

Strange not seeing many military planes in the area

Well if Putin wanted to disrupt comms via the internet-there just happens to be pretty much ALL our submarine cables in the very area of the proposed live fire. Most of our internet cables connecting us to europe and the US go right through that zone.

Have a look here-

www.submarinecablemap.com...

Its pretty much thought that Russia have the capability to cut the cables(something along the lines of mini subs with a big pair of scissors attached).
The head of Britains armed forces has also warned about the threat(in general, not for this specific live fire event).

I would bet Putin picked that spot on purpose. Ireland is historically neutral and not a member of NATO, so he can say "mind your own business" when other countries speak up.

Basically, Putin is saying do you really want total war over Ukraine? Joey and the EU, well do you?

Right or wrong he likely has his own internal pressures, to answer to and consider.

The Royal Air Force has a joint responsibility agreement with Dublin for the defence of Irish airspace. Those Russian rustbuckets would be easy meat for Typhoons, let alone RN Below Water Assets.

The US does military exercises off the coasts of countries to show a strength of power regularly, Russia and other countries do the same thing. It is a warning, not a provocation of impending war.

Countries show their strength all the time in this world. We will have to wait and see if something happens in the Ukraine, Russia does not want the west putting weapons in the Ukraine, and if I was leading their country, I wouldn't like that either. There have been plans by the west to weaponize the Ukraine, that would be a threat to Russian interests.

They need to make the Ukraine a neutral military area, a buffer for both sides....no military presence by either side there if they want to lower tensions.

Russian parked off Ireland

Quote from the link:

"They are due to take place about 240km (150 miles) off the south-west coast of Ireland, he said."

That's more than the distance from Dublin to Liverpool.

The Irish will not be able to see these ships even with binoculars from Ireland.

Is anybody tracking Russia's tugboats? Their location would be a prime indicator of any potential naval deployment.

Yes. Seems that their aircraft carrier is heavily reliant on tugboats!

Either way, It's a long way from Russia and only a 2/3 Hour Journey at most to land, not that it would reach it or even try to.

This seemingly random act by Russia is actually anything but. It sends a clear message: "Anywhere, anytime, for any reason, or no reason at all. You cant defend everything."

It is not about Ireland. It's about the cables that are on the ocean floor beneath the Russian ships that are of interest.

The cables are not the issue. If they want to take out the cables, the stations where they come out of the water would be an easy target for cruise missiles. With satellites being what they are these days those cables don't have the value that they once had.
