Let me give you this bit of info. 30 years ago my mother in law used to trim Stetsons, the company she worked for was in the central midlands in the UK. All their hats were exported to the USA.

That's pretty cool.

There's two kinds of hat trimming (that I'm aware of anyway). The first is the kind manufacturers do to felt hats after they've been stamped and bashed (shaped). Most people never saw this because they were new hats, and this was part of the final step in the manufacturing process.

The other kind is something which was real popular in the 80's where people would have their hat brims trimmed down to make them look a little different than how they came from the manufacturer. I had this done to a couple hats back in the day. I imagine they still do it today, but most today like larger rather than smaller brims so I don't think it is as common.
