Just a short question. What will The James Webb Telescope's first target be ?

I can't find any info on what the target will be. In fact it appears they are keeping it quite. If it was my choice i would target the nearest exoplanet.

What would you suggest ?

Good Question. I have no idea.

Hopefully it involves cute alien babes with a glimpse of the recipe for ultra galactic beer!

But alas a quick search

The James Webb Space Telescope is an infrared observatory that will orbit about 1 million miles from Earth to find the first galaxies that formed in the early universe and to see stars forming planetary systems.Jan 10, 2022

So it’s mission is to observe the formation of solar systems around a star

The telescope will apparently first observe the three largest "low-albedo asteroids" as well as the "Trojan asteroids".

I don’t know specifics about first target but the “first images” will be setting the things like focus, differences in tension (at a ridiculous level of precision), and other systems checks, will take time. My guess is that they will go “tourist mode” and image structures we already know about but have never had this access from orbit; stuff like Orion, neabula, etc.

When satisfied that all that data is being collected at their determined error rate (sigma), then they have a whole portfolio of targets for each acheduled institutions have already signed up for. There are already three or four of these targeting times already filled out

I know early on are the planets around the red dwarf star that made the news several years ago.

That should be interesting!!

Our whole understanding of the universe is about to expand! It seems that the people in power wants us dumb so we can be controlled. They don’t want lose their “power” as humans turn away from these conrtol structures and their minds grow in ways that will be unknown.

My guess is that Covid is part of the control structure but look what has happened when everyone says, “fine eff it! I don’t want that lame ass job anyway”!! There is almost a desperation in the power elite.

What happens if we no longer have to live on this planet under their rules???

I don’t know but the whole thing has me feeling off.
You know that saying, if you go looking for trouble you’ll find it?

What if they see another earth that is parallel to ours. How weird would that be?

They're looking for Galactic porn, but they're waiting for their VNP to load so no one can see their browsing.

Really Really far away highly red shifted stars.Webb will be able to see back to about 100 million - 250 million years after the Big Bang.

The "Methuselah Star" might be a good candidate there, she's about 200 light years distant in the constellation Libra.

Can it see planets in our own solar system? Get a much better view of them maybe?

Magellanic Clouds

Some targets in the magellanic clouds iirc.

Going to calibrate the mirrors off of that.

Not sure if those will be public imagery though.

This seems to be the early plan , from what I've read the first 2 years of Webb time has already been booked so I guess the rest is up to them.

And, in exciting new news, the first targets of the JWST have been announced — and the list is long.
The Webb will observe the three largest low-albedo asteroids, as well as the Trojan asteroids, allowing us to peer into the origins of our solar system. It will also explore near-Earth objects, which could expand our knowledge and even protect the Earth.

It will also investigate Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, Neptune’s south polar vortex, geological phenomena on Saturn’s moons, and the atmosphere on the planet itself.

I don't think the Webb telescope is far enough away from Earth to photograph it all at once...is it?

It's orbit is 1 million miles away so yes but it doesn't take optical pictures and it will always have its back to us.

Webb is now just 3 days away from its orbital position having completed nearly 96% of its journey , then we'll just have to wait a few months for calibration testing and look forward to a Summer of discovery.
