i would assume in DS1 most of the battles were NOT BVR fights but rather iraqi SAM's assisting Iraqi fighters

i have seen a few videos from the start of DS1 and all you could hear were SAM warnings and than lock on's from the air




i will have to look at the missiles used but i get they were all early to mid series and old AMRAAM's


i could be 100% wrong but i always thought that early missiles were easily fooled or you could blind heatseaker's with the sun and and AMRAAM's with ECM's and chaff


missiles these days have such high off boresight lock on's that it would be almost hard to not get that shot off, new seekers and new radar in offensive missiles PLUS BVR ranges and being able to dump your missiles off and have them guided in by other aircraft/drones seems like a very potent and different system than a AIM-9B
