Except that's not what that is saying. The existing tests only detect COVID. The CDC is now recommending tests that can detect COVID and influenza.

If they were successful and everyone got the vaccine, the left would then throw their hands up and say "Sorry guys, thought it would work but I guess not. You'll figure it out." because it would be too late by then and we'd all be vaccinated.

Yes. It's a test that detects and differentiates between COVID and influenza. It wouldn't do much good if it only gave you a positive if you had either COVID or influenza without telling you which one.

The current tests that are widely in use aren't multiplexed. Meaning they only detect one virus. If the current tests only detect one virus then they're not going to be differentiating between two things.
