Here in the suburbs of Chicago I check a regional chain- full schedule.
Then I checked AMC and yep starting Jan 7th only the 355 is showing.
I'm wondering if it's just AMC? They are going through some really bad financial times and maybe their credit was cut-off after the start of the new year? Or maybe it's the start of a new contract for their suppliers?
They could be cutting back on new releases to keep crowds down but I think we would be seeing mass cancellation of events in other places too. The Chicago auto show is going on and that's like a million people in two rooms.

I am a senior project manager for Regal Theatres and you won't believe this but starting on January 7
Across the country we are retrofitting theaters to be emergency rooms; low-security, limited-capacity detainment or containment areas with medical facility infrastructure; and high-capacity morgues. This was a rapid contract we "won" from the federal government that, if you want the short version more or less came out of, undisclosed high-level mitigation proceedings prior to bankruptcy measures. We own the buildings so this is a way to segue out of the movie biz. Look, I can't talk to you about intent or motive or the backstory, just this project.
Basically we're creating more urgent care hospitals and morgues

I am usually a lurker here but had to come out for this one..love this site by the way! Anyway in my area Cinemark theaters are doing the same but not all of them oddly enough and not all starting on the 6th some started only showing 355 on the 7th with another movie called Poupelle of Chimney town. I look at about a 50 mile radius thinking it depends on the theater screen count and it does not. Smaller and larger theaters are doing this regardless of screen count. However, not every theater is doing this and some of the larger ones that are have no need to show only one movie they see a lot of foot traffic and NO we are not locked down or going into lock down in my state.
I know its a long shot BUT nothing surprises me anymore. What if theaters only showing 355 are targets? Targets for what I dont know..but what better way of getting a message out without getting a message out? Just a crazy thought..
I did find this article but its the AP so take it with a grain of salt and I never remember this happening before but I am not always watching movies either. Someone that goes to the movies regularly would have to chime in.
