Sounds like it would not be profitable to grow one octopus at a time, maybe they should make an octopi farm.

The plural of Octopus isn't Octopi.

On topic: Octopuses should not be farmed. I believe in free range meat. Caged is immoral.

It's latin and it's in Merriam Webster FWIW

I have heard a few times, if any creature could of come from another planet, it would be the octupus. Very smart, fortunately I'm not a fuge fan of calamari or octopus

I'm surprised that Cthulhu hasn't been brought up yet as well. Especially by me considering I am a regular player of Call of Cthulhu.

Well if you'd wait a Dagon minute, someone's bound to.

Then, hopefully, someone else can say "we're going to need a bigger boat".

I think it's a great idea, but I may be biased since I looooove octopus salad.
...And now I'm going to eat sushi for dinner. Weird reading this op...I've been thinking about it all day.

So, I vote no.

BBC News - The world's first octopus farm - should it go ahead?
www.bbc.co.uk...

I have always thought that these amazing creature are both sentient and highly intelligent. Sadly, they only live for about four years.

I'm no tree hugging veggie but I have always thought it wrong to kill and eat them and this farm appalls me.

Recommend watching "My Octopus Teacher" it's on Netflix.

Amazing.

me neither and a loud hard No from me.

i could maybe agree if they were farmed to let loose back into the wild tho.

to use them as a food source? that's what squids are for.

i haven't eaten any in at least 30 yrs. sorry i did but it was part of our household diet at times but that was in the 50's and 60's.

I am on the fence.
They are obviously more intelligent than most people believe that they are, but I am not sure where to draw the line.

Deep fried with a good marinara sauce?

I have had octapus a half dozen times over the years, the last time was maybe six months ago. I am not impressed with it, although scallops don't enthuse me either. The only way I like clams is when they are deepfried strips of clam.

I ate live clams when we were in Florida one year many years ago, I was told not to chew it. It hit my stomach acid and bounced all over. I ate one more, stabbing it at least twenty times with my straw from the drink, then slid it out of the shell into my mouth and swallowed it. I gave away the last ten...I got a dozen of them...to another customer who was glad to get them. He slurped them down with a smile on his face. I will never order live clams again.

I actually do not much care for bottom feeders that much, I don't care for lobster, but I do like shrimp occasionally if it is just boiled and drained then dredged with butter and salt. No shrimp sauce, I don't care for that. I think lobster tastes like bullhead, it is the same kind of rubbery texture and it must somehow be related to the lobster except no legs or pincers. With butter sauce, the bullheads from freshwater here do remind me of lobster, my grandfather loved bullheads. They do smoke up to a jerky like texture too, I wonder how lobsters are smoked?

I really like fish though, but am not impressed with shark and some other ocean fish. Never had seal or whale meat, but if done right, sturgeon sure does taste great smoked.

Cuttlefish are amazing, too.

I also ate Octopus once a while ago, and am still ashamed about it.

never seen them like that, mostly just sautéed then cooked in marinara. usually a fra diavlo.

my mom as a joke cooked up some whole baby octos and gave them to my dad to take to work in his lunch box.

joke was on her, he loved them, lol.

Are these farmed octopi going to feed poor people or be a low cost sustainable food source? If not, then its waste and abuse. Where are octopi a staple? Except for a few native peoples. I had no idea they feel emotions..sure then, lets make a giant pool of octopus pain! Maybe we can run wires from the tank and use their frequency to talk to ET. ET will probably be upset as the octopus are most certainly a relative. Yea. Not cool.

Yeah, it bums me out a bit that they would hold captive octopuses to eat ... more because they would just live in captivity, with no real freedom, only to be eaten, which seems rough for a creature with that sort of intelligence.

I might be a hypocrite, because I have eaten octopus, and will eat it again. I like sushi a lot....

But at least the octopuses they catch got a chance at some kind of 'freedom'.

The farmed ones won't ever be free.
