Sounds like they not only employ people, but they abuse them as well!

I work alongside the BCTGM, their collective bargaining agreement is that union members can't strike unless for valid reasoms, and that if they try to get a strike going without it being approved then they can be replaced.

That being said. I'll never join a union. I've been able to negotiate far better pay and benefits on my own than what a union has done.

I was at the mall earlier today and saw one of those massive squares of rice crispy treats at an FYE. I usually buy one for christmas for all my kids to share. No rice crispies shortage here in Tampa Bay area. Even the cereal is available, but i usually buy my kids general mills cereal.

It's pretty easy to find out what's going on.

The CBA between the company and the union expired, there was a push for an extension, but the company threatened to move to Mexico. So, after some time the union went on strike and the company decided to hire replacements. The union members may be screwed, because they are striking when the contract has expired.

The main reason there hasn't been an agreement is over the temp workers. What it sounds like is that the company was paying the temp workers at a lower rate than regular employees until they got hired on as a regular employee, and that temp workers weren't supposed to comprise more than 30% of the employees.

Well, I guess after the contract ended because the union wanted temp workers to get paid as much as regular employees, that the company said nope, and began to hire more temp workers which increased the temp worker percentage over 30%.

So, the union went on strike. Then, the company started hiring more nonunion employees.

To me it sounds like it may not be a union gig for that much longer. Especially if Kellogg's does say screw it and relocate to Mexico.

The thing that kills me is that the union has people showing up to picket that aren't even in the union. The the local labor union makes sense, but they have UAW guys showing up, and they have Party for Socialism and Liberation showing up as if they were BCTGM union members sign and garb and all.

Then of course you get r/antiwork who were the ones who basically pushed it into the limelight, and their cashing in on the social presence. And since antiwork is full of your typical socialist/commie wannabees they set out to glorify the union and show it in a positive light. saying that they did no wrong and the usual rhetoric.

The thing is this is what happens when you unionize a work place. These are the risks you accept by letting others negotiate your conditions of employment.

TLDR

Collective Bargaining Agreement expired, couldn't agree on a new CBA, company decided to go on operating, union got pissy, went on strike, workers got replaced. Kellogg's will probably no longer unionized or will move to Mexico.

That is unless the union decides that the pay system isn't actually that bad.

People unionize themselves right out of a job...

Not anymore. Reddit has given power to the masses. We also saw the wall street whales get worked iver by the reddit hive.

The antiwork sub is about the hottest thing on reddit.

Looks like the union caved. They're acting like it's a victory, but really the company is the one that came out on top.

I remember a thread I posted a few years back with a video of disgruntled workers pissing in vats of Rice Krispies at the factory.

no more Kellogg's for me. I can make my own granola from ingredients I get from whole foods or the local farmers market.

I stopped buying Kelloggs when they started printing all the "pride" BS on cereal marketed to kids. Haven't bought a Kelloggs product since.

I stopped buying kellogg's last week after paying $5.99 for a box that was $1.99 last year, only to find clot shot propaganda on the packaging when it was delivered.

So was the Union representing the workers or the Union's political interests?

Kind of like the UMW telling it's members to vote Democrat even though the Democrats want to put them out of work.

Not really. Those "wins" were already in the works, and weren't what initially caused the issue.

Don't know. Really don't care. I've been shot at by a Union, had my car firebombed by a Union, been denied the right to vote even though I was paying dues by a Union. I've watched a Union defend an employee who was drunk in a hazardous location. I've seen a Union defend an employee who cost a Company about a million dollars by his negligence and then complain that there was no profit sharing.

I'm anti-union. I understand what they once were. I know what they have become.

If you really don't care, why even bother to spend the time to post anecdotal stories.
I stand with my BCTGM bros. Congrats on the victory!!

I have no problem with the Locals who are actually taking care of their members. It's the Leadership that puts political interest ahead of the well being of their members that I have a problem with.
