Slender women.

Yes.

Twiggy was a short lived fad.

Now we women are prepping for the great reset and food restrictions.

Slender femininity has always been the height of desirability and, despite feminists attempts a redefining what men find attractive still is. Hence the increase in the popularity of porn, sex workers and the rise of the incel.
If prepping means millions of women becoming morbidly obese is prepping for the great reset, keep it up. Were going to need something to feed our attack dogs on.

The meaning of life for some I guess.

By the way you are deciding what slender it and it is not the same over time by far!

Of course we have an iron. The wifey irons the clothes every weekend.

But yeah I never had to shine my shoes.

A common thing for me that is no longer common is the ol falling asleep to or walking around with my discman or walkman. Now it's all phone phone phone. I still have those items and use them from time to time but not commonly.
Phone also replaced gameboy/handheld game. Phone also replaced need for notepad, though I use one for groceries.

Phone replaced (largely) camera, though we use our digital camera for trips. It makes photos less special....

Musicismagic mentions a good one, phone booths.... not to mention phone books. not to mention not memorising people's numbers anymore....

My mother said when she was young, they had irons, but no electricity.

She said they didn't have electricity or a milkman until after she was well grown.

She said the had the Fuller Brush man, and the Watkins man.

It's not my decision. Facts are facts and the desirability of the hourglass figure is a historic and current fact. Anything else is dumbass feminist propaganda.

It may be good practise to buy an old fashioned iron that you can put boiling water into, or just heat on the stove.
But at that point if we regress that much I don't think ironing clothes will be that high on the list.

More like man the gates. . .

My mother used hers as a doorstop for years.

I have not ironed any item of clothing since the late 80's. So unless it can be used for something else important, I am with you, it will not make the list.

Marriage notices, death notices etc. in local newspapers. I only noticed this a couple of years ago, when I was looking for them for some reason. I assume people have dropped the habit because they inform their friends on social media.

Social media and the funeral home.

A couple of months ago I heard that a lady I had known for years, and who had been very sick the whole time I have known her, had died. They gave me the name of the funeral home. I looked up the funeral home, found its website. I was shocked at how well detailed the death notices were, and how far back they went.

Almost everyone, their mother, and granny, has a internet footprint.

Another neat thing is that many have Facebook lived almost every life event. Funerals, weddings, birthday parties, what they had for dinner. All just a click away.

We don't have covered wagons anymore either. Maybe instead of embracing change we should just stay stagnant and let the rest of the world take over.

It's called change. Why are some people so against it? You do know it will happen whether you are on board with it or not.

That's life. Change.

Change doesn't always mean progress, pal.
If the change was good, people wouldn't be complaining about how they miss face to face interaction, paper photos and actually holding the videos, music, etc that was purchased, or shoes that fall to pieces in 3 months.

What the world needs is some good change. But instead it follows the $ and how much cheap stuff they can sell to the masses. Future landfill!

On an upper note, vinyl records made a comeback, I can buy brand new phonos in person or online, the music just sounds better (I think so at least), and the best part is, you can still buy a mobile phone small enough to fit in a pocket (flip phone, I have one).

What was common that should still be but isn't?
Paper recipe cards.
The big stack of them we all had in our kitchens. At least I still have mine and still make new ones.

Not by men with the options to choose it isnt. You say you like soft and plump. Men with the choice always choose tighter and lighter.

You reminded me. Yes, grandmas use to have ample laps for sitting, and a soft place to lay your head. They always had a tasty snack for you, and the best lemonade or sweet tea in the world.

They used to be available, patient, loving, and so happy to see you. Even if they saw you every day..

Society wants grandmas to be jet setters and cougars. Painting the traditional grandma as undesirable, and under valued.

We need more grandmas like those of yesteryear.

I feel compassion toward anyone who thinks this way, very sad and very very wrong.

I just remembered the ice box.

Called that because the ice man came and placed a block of ice in it to keep your perishable foods cool.

We had a springhouse too.

I 'd have to say pay phone booths were very common in my youth. But now even in this country where I'm at, they are disappearing. Train stations always have pay phones but now I don't see them at all.

Good point. I have not seen a payphone in years. I haven't used one in probably 20 years either.

Do they still have soda fountains?

I know I have not had a real old fashioned frozen custard in decades.

Looks like there is one about 50 miles away from me.

If the cheese curds and the frozen custard are worth it, It may become a regular hangout of mine, after I have stopped at Bolay's.

It is. The beef pot roast dinner, ruben, and butter burgers are amazing too.
