More than half of the population of Afghanistan is facing extreme hunger, a frightening development that will only intensify as winter gets set to grip the war-devastated country now under Taliban control.

"The humanitarian crisis is escalating daily in Afghanistan. Hunger in the country has reached truly unprecedented levels. Nearly 23 million people—that is 55 percent of the population—are facing extreme levels of hunger, and nearly nine million of them are at risk of famine," said U.N. Refugee Agency spokesman Babar Baloch told Voice of America last week.

not that I consider the UN to be particularly reliable, but this isn't surprising.
Taliban types are good at blowing up innocents but not so good at actually managing things.

I don't think Afghanistan is a big food producer and distribution must be a nightmare in those mountains, with winter coming.

As a human, and not as an American, I often think what a cruel world this is.

Half the people are starving and are skin and bones, and half are so obese they can barely move.

So millions of Afghans will die of starvation and the Taliban will say it is Allah's will I bet.

Truth be told if the Afghans are not willing to fight them off themselves why should we have to go back and do it for them.

not to drift topic but very true.
ironically, lots of the obese consider themselves 'poor', in the USA and the West.

on one hand one wants to send relief to those people.
on the other hand how much of that relief would end up subsidizing the Taliban, and even be sold outside, the money used to buy weapons? I think this happens a lot in Islamic Africa (Sudan).

Lot of kids in Afghanistan. They will get fed but there is a price. Have to do some jihading. There won't be any food lines or wic cards that's for damn sure. Basically ISIS is getting the band back together.

Two decades and a couple TRILLION and kids are starving? Trump arranged the withdrawal and Biden withdrew. Don't have a problem with either President on this one.

I want to hear the actual mechanics of this situation. What was the food acquisition and distribution situation in place, and what drove it/organized it? Did the government order and distribute all the food- surely not. Is this a supply chain issue too? Otherwise, couldn't they continue what was already in place?

I'm sure those questions are naive... hence my need for real info on how this played out.

That was my underlying point, but I have had posts removed in the past on ATS for intimating that the Taliban have a special relationship with their goats.

You should educate yourself on what Trump setup though. He never set a hard withdraw date, unless certain requirements were met on the Taliban side of the deal, like not attacking soldiers. The Taliban broke the deal. Biden had ZERO obligation to with draw and was in a position to renegotiate or do whatever is needed without breaking any promises, since the Taliban did not hold up tot heir end.

Bottom line though, China want to go through Afghanistan because that country is directly between them and Africa. If China is able to secure a safe ground transport route through the middle east with local control and support, were all screwed and will never be able to go back there no matter what happens. We have no strategic foothold anymore. Thats why Biden pulled out. Had to make way for his buddy. Thats why China moved politically on the area immediately, and the media is silent. China is playing a 100 year game. Biden is playing the game of how much cash he can pull from his position before 2024. He gets rich in front of us while selling out what gives America strength, and no one even reports it.

Whether we should have been there or not, we should STILL have a base there. It was extremely valuable in regards to location and tactical advantage if ever needed. We also could have used the base to distribute food, (and the fake vax) if thats what Democrats cared about. They really were just making way for China. If you try to predict the democrat behavior by what is good for China, you will be right 99% of the time. The entire reason I type this so confidently is because it was obvious China was waiting to move in for a couple of years. Its part of their plan.

For decades Afghanistan has been sustained by constant foreign aid deliveries.

The country is simply not capable of feeding itself at it’s present population. They would need to tap into their extensive and near-unexploited mineral wealth to trade.

Well, I suppose we should just bring them all to the west then.....
