SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. - An odd sight off the Florida coast was spotted Monday by a FOX 35 viewer.

As described by the viewer, FOX 35 received a photo from Jeff Brogli of a "hovering cruise ship" on Monday.

He explained that he took the photo of the Carnival Ecstasy ship around noon on Monday off of his balcony in Satellite Beach.

Is this a glitch in the simulation? If this is just an optical illusion then why can you see the bottom of the ship? Look at the back of the ship, where should the water be covering the ship at the bottom? You can see the back corner all the way to the bottom of the ship.

It seems to me that water should be obscuring the bottom of the ship, even from any optical illusion.

ETA: Nevermind I looked at other photos, it pans out.....lol still cool though!

Not uncommon for that type of optical illusion.

100% optical illusion.

We have a building near us that the same illusion happens. If the sky and sun is just right it appears to be floating.

Refraction.. Also the reason the Titanic didn’t see the iceberg.

It's a well known and documented optical illusion called a Fata Morgana.
en.wikipedia.org...

I love the city's in the sky though and the ones that have been seen by people at sea sometimes hundreds of miles from where they actually are which even if it is an illusion is amazing and also still pretty difficult to explain.

I've seen this personally it's not a mirage but the mist makes the water under the ship blend in with the sky.

Caused by temp difference between the land and the water, creates a lens. One way you know this is true is the propeller on any of these ships would be 20-30 feet tall Yet it aint showin hoss. I worked in the artic circle youn would see mountains doing the same. Things would be huge and get smaller as they get closer. Was pretty freaky.

really cool illusion... on a hot summer with the right conditions you can see Toronto in my city as IF its right on the shore from 3-4kms down a straight road that goes through the center of town. And St.Catherines is on the other side of lake Ontario
