So I think we could benefit from this.
One of our challenges is that when media says "it looks bad in X country", we have no way of fact checking them without going lengths to dig the data
out. For some countries this can be extremely difficult.
One thing I keep seeing mentioned in media is the term "hospitalizations" or "hospital admissions", as a way to emphasize the severity of the
situation.
Then once in a while an outspoken chief doctor comes out and says, "we don't have any pressure from covid at the moment...?"
See this is weird. Of course we all know it'a about number joggling. They spin the numbers for most drama.
So what we need to understand and remind eachother of is what those numbers are defined by.
Denmark
Hospitalization: A patient staying longer than 12 hours or is present in the emergency room during "snapshot".
You see the problem here?
What if somone leaves after 12h 15min?
What if 8 people were present in the ER during snapshot but afterwards told "aw, it's going to be fine, go home, drink some hot tea, and call if you
can't breath"
Those people are also counted......
So... let's get this defined in as many countries as possible, and remind the media every time they try to headline us with "facts".
