Why do cows slobber / drooling all the time

I remember as a child I never saw any of the cows in the nearby pasture drool over eating clover and grass.

I often think it is the new type of corn grown that may be causing Vesicular stomatitis that affects cattle and which causes drooling or foaming from the mouth. There are a couple of other diseases you may want to look into as well, though: Pasture bloat is a common ailment that affects cattle. It occurs when a cow's natural digestive process creates gases like methane and carbon dioxide.

I even see the cows here recently drooling over kirin feed beer to them.

They are probably sick from grass covered with exhaust fumes from the millions of pollution machines started by the rat race everyday.

But yeh I agree they do not look well compared to ones from years ago.

I would assume they've tested at least some cows, but I haven't actually read/heard anything about it.

Without searching the internet I would guess it has something to do with digestion. The human digestive tract is far more extensive than most people realize, extending from the eyes all the way to the arse. I have a condition termed "crocodile tears", nerve damage causes eyes to tear up and cry while eating (saliva gland/tear gland nerve patching). I also drool (nerve damage again).

This interested me as I lost two cavy sows a few days ago, one was bloated and both were severely dripping drool. I had used a batch of local hay as bedding, but with hesitation because the same batch had caused slight symptoms a month ago. I thought it was my imagination but swapped out to very good quality hay from up north and they recovered.

I live in a very gravelly area where clover thrives due to having deep roots able to get water in summer drought. I've noticed a lot of fungus on it even in my yard. Crazy that what is a treat to an animal can kill them. I was giving garden greens and grass to my rabbits then got symptoms of rat lungworm in, fortunately, only one rabbit. It's passed on through slugs eating the greenery which is impossible to control.

Slugs will not cross copper. A good use for old wiring perhaps?
And snails also wont apparently it reacts with their skin or slime.
