Good Evening ATS

Today the UK suffered its first airframe loss of an F 35 , The pilot is safe thank god

Given the Med is quite deep in places and the currently unknown nature of the cause do you think an attempt will be made at salvage before other "interested" parties try to get to it?

Electronic warfare ? Maybe that is what brought it down ?

Unlikely but not impossible would be my take on that
HMS QE current position is on the Sicilian eastern coast the med gets very deep very quickly off the eastern coast not so much off the southern coast towards Libya

The article said they intend to. With all the Russian activity in the eastern part of the sea, it's pretty much a given anyway.

Doubtful. The article said it was on take off. Probably a mechanical/software failure. The fact that they kept rolling with training and operational sorties leads credence to it not being any sort of attack or external disruption.

They’ve recovered less sensitive aircraft than this, so they will almost certainly try to recover it.

Found this via The Aviationist.

FLOP GUN! £100million Royal Navy fighter jet crashed ‘because cheap plastic rain cover was left on during take-off’

Sailors saw a red cover floating in the sea after the stealth jet splashed into the Mediterranean.

A source said: “They knew almost right away.

“The covers and engine blanks are supposed to be removed before flight.

“The ground crew do it and they are incredibly strict.

"Then the pilot walks round.”

The Navy pilot tried to abort take-off but ran out of runway so had to eject.

Engine intake covers pictured in place above.

That's a big yikes to have missed if this is accurate.

It was more than likely a pitot cover that pins in place that was missed. HOW it was missed, is a hell of a question, but I suspect it was Gethomeitis, and things were half assed before the launch.

Unforgivable if that is the case
