My Co Commissioner called me racist

My county commissioners hold public meetings during workdays to keep participation to a minimum. I took today off work to attend and my participation was not appreciated.

The issue I was there about is the city/county plan to move all the homeless crackheads out of the newly gentrified downtown area and move them all to an open field near my home.

I spoke for my allotted 3 minutes touching on the problems this action will cause to my community. Crime, public safety, crime, resources like fire and emergency medical being stretched thin already, crime, property values, crime, and the safety of the school kids in the area, and crime.

I said nothing about anyone's race because that had nothing to do with the subject at hand. My neighbors are all shapes and colors (as are the crackheads) and I was speaking in defense of all of us.

Several of the commissioners promptly admonished me for being against black people moving to my part of the county. They ignored everything I had to say and went strait to race and how I'm obviously just a piece of #.

I guess I should take it as a win. They couldn't refute what I had to say so went strait to the nuclear discussion ender.

Well how dare you presenting your viewpoint without racism, that's why they had to brand you with it.

I would have come back with "If I am racist for not wanting these people here, you are far more racist for even coming up with the idea to relocate them elsewhere, only racists do that"-kind of stupid reply to show them the level of conversation they like to maintain.

In all seriousness, this is probably the mechanism behind their reasoning, just they don't get it, because they are far more racist than the OP, that showed no racism at all with the words used.

Takes a devoted racist to spot possible racism in everything and everyone. Just the difference is between an open racist and closet racist like the OP faced, the closet racist points it out to distract from discovering their own flawed thinking patterns.

I mean, it was not the OP trying to relocate these people (of all cultures and colors I guess) because they are inconvenient. One could even argue, it would not be honest though, that OP is trying to prevent the institutional racism to take effect.

Your county commissioners need to be replaced with thinking people.

The commissioners may belong to a group subscription that instructs how to automatically respond to normal concerns 🦇✍️

Five commissioners and only one is Democrat and he was silent during the whole meeting. This project will effect his district and I'm sure he does not want the headache.

This is all about the big money people moving "undesirables" away from their new hip downtown.

The one democrat is also the only black guy on the board and I
we have known each other all of our lives. His mom didn't raise him that way and would not tolerate it from either of us.

Race shouldn't enter the conversation. My neighborhood is being shat on by the big money investors who own the local politicians and who buy up the poor areas and force the poor/old folks out. I had a small discussion with a new colleague today of similar proportions.
I mentioned how the city council of our city is corrupt and taking bribes and money from land developers to level down small businesses and put up condos for more rent while talking out their # about supporting small businesses.
Also I mentioned how the homeless problem is out of hand and all he had to say was blank stares and a scared look.
And perhaps 'i think they are trying to get a new city council'


Edit to say since this is a huge liberal area I mentioned as well, 'inclusion' and how it is actually racist because it picks people like fruits at a supermarket based not on their qualities but on their skin colour and he just stared. And he's my age.
No rebuttal whatsoever.
